A few pics of an early/recent AH-64 build
Posted by Frunobulax on Monday, September 5, 2005 8:48 PM
I started this one early in my renewed modeling foray, and finished it after I had learned a few tricks. Parts of this helo are very amateurish, and other parts are slightly less so. It is straight from the box with no aftermarket parts. I am probably going to build another one and add a lot of the parts that are missing from this one - antennas, cable cutters etc.

Actually, there are a few aftermarket decals on this. Some of the data decals are from an F-15 data sheet. I basically went for size and number of lines of text. I figured nobody is going to get out a magnifying glass and actually read them (!!!)

Frunobulax,

Lookin good! You've got a nice Apache there. My only comment is that your outer cockpit door handles are backwards (they should be facing forwards like the inner ones) and the stenciling on the nose should be black, not yellow. Paint looks good and your panel lines look really good!

Can't wait to see the next one!

Frunobulax,

Actually, if I remember correctly from the last time I got out of one (it has been a few months - flying UH-1s now) that the handles are both backwards, both inside and out. Not that I would go back and change it now, you did a great job. I just started modelling again myself and after I get a few easy projects under my belt, I plan on building a D Model version of "The Big Rig" as we call it.

Great work!

Thanks Randall. Actually, Cobrahistorian is correct. I just saw a video which depicts (among other things) an Apache front-seater latching his cockpit door.
The position of his hands as he latches it can only be interpreted the way CH describes. As I said previously, the way I plan on fixing it is building a new one.
