No one in the U.S. Army had any "A"s at the beggining of Desert Storm.

A and B Companies/1/501st Avn (Previously 213th and 271st Avn Companies) were among the last active Army units to recieve D models in exchange for C Models (we sent our C models to the Reserve Unit in Olathe Kansas), a transition that took the better part of a year from 1988-1989

So you are correct in assuming that the 101st didn't go to Saudi Arabia with A models, and it is probably a safe bet that no U.S. Army C models were involved either.

The 101st was one of the first units (if not the first) to get the Delta models. I dont think anyone still had Alpha models in 91. maybe a few Charlies though.

Based on the sprue pics, it looks like either an A or a D can be made from the kit. My guess is that the 101 ABN ODS option is for one of the D versions.
