Posted by intruder_bass on Saturday, October 8, 2005 11:45 PM
Started gathering info on Uh-1 Huey for building the Academy kit in 1/35
Have allready 5-6 whalkarounds and Squadron buclet-whalkaround... But its not enough! If somebody have (by any chance) Operators or Maintaince Manuals on UH-1B or other resources that might help on research PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!! Espessialy intrested in my favorite parts of the chopper - transmission and engine compartments, tail gear box, any cross-sections, frame arangement ets. Any help will be very helpfull! I know some of you guys worked on Hueys - maybe some scheme or diograms still availible....

Thanks a lot!!!

There are some good diagrams here:
http://incolor.inetnebr.com/iceman/helicopt.htm

This may be stating the obvious but don't forget to include the UH-1C, UH-1M, UH-1E, UH-1L, and even perhaps the D, H, and F in your google searches. A lot of the components are the same. There are a lot of CDs being offered on ebay and other places that have a variety of Huey maintenance pubs on them and the only run $10-$20.

Hey guys,

luckily just managed to catch this link as I am too in search of some Huey info. I checked the excellent link on huey uh-1c/h subsystems and components as suggested, but I am chasing as much info as possible on the UH-1B (hog). I am in the research phase ready to build Monogram's 1:24 version. Its huge and I would like to detail it as close as possible to the real thing, but have been told that monogram have a knack for mixing features from the "B" and "C" models. As of yet I have found no definate pointers to suggest exactly what the difference is between the two. Any ideas?

B model: fuel filler on right side C model: on left side, concave tail fin, larger stabilizers, 540 rotor system, most other features are internal

Grandadjohn,

Thanks for the pointers. After browsing a bit more I have discovered as predicted that the fuel filler IS on the wrong side and there are no FM homing antennae or pitot tube on the nose! Everything else seems fine on the outside though.

As I mentioned I am keen to replicate as accurately as possible the inside as well as the exterior and would be just as grateful for pointers as to differences internally. These features seem very hard to track down on the web for some obscure reason.
I know that the instrument console on the roof of the cockpit is definately missing as well as a distinct lack of padding on the roof! Any further help with standard internal features on the B model would be great?

Additional internal differences on the C would be the dual(parallel) hydraulic system and the weapons items(sights, panels, ammo bins and circuit breakers) would have been standard. In the B weapons would have been add-on and only a single hydraulic system. Best bet is to gather photo's and use them for reference

Thanks,

will keep searching! Also finding it difficult to find info on the Lycoming T53-L-11 1100shp engine used in the hog model I ahve got. Was half considering whether I should open up the engine access cowls and detail them too. So many possibilities.....

Engibe details would be the same regardless of which engine you use(all were T53-5-) except for the F model

I had a search for some Lycoming t53 photos over the last couple of days as well as trauling the web for UH-1B photos too. The best thing I did see was info on CD for sale on eBay. The title to search for is "UH-1 Huey Helicopter: 77 manual CD, 8314p/Iroquois Bell" and I think it is the closest you will get to the detailed diagrams and illustrations you are after. Its basically a CD (ebook) for a whole load of huey variants starting at the B version. Prices start at $7.50 if you want to bid, but you can buy it outright for $12+shipping. Not much really for 8314 pages of info!!

Another possible source is a book that is supposed to be an excellent general reference for us gunship builders. It is called "uh-1 huey gunships walkaround" by Wayne Mutza. I havent recieved it yet and am still eagerly waiting its arrival.

Finally, just looking I have found walk around photos for a "D" version (http://www.b-domke.de/AviationImages/Huey.html) I know its not exactly what we are looking for, but the engine closeup was of most interest.

Grandadjohn, maybe you could pitch in here. Could you have a look at this site and give us an idea of how close the T53 engine shown is to the ones used in the B and C versions...if you know? The wiring and pipe detail is of most interest personally.

Hope this all helps!

The one shown as a Mike(M) model is an up-rated C model, C had T53-L-11(B model would have used a T53-L-9 or -11), M had a T53-L-13 that is the only difference, D model used the same engime as the B, H model had engine up-rated to-13, hope this helps
