I knew about it before they named it "Blackhawk"(UTTAS), by the way the HUEY"s 50th is this month also. First flight was on October 22, 1956. Opps, off by a year, but they are still flying.

I'm the same age as the Black Hawk? Not too sure how I feel about that...

Now that's cool!! Some of the NCO's in my first USAR unit used to joke that when the last Blackhawk was retired, the crew would be picked up by a Huey!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLACKHAWK!! Happy B-Day [bday]

On the same subject, I found an old picture I made down at Ft. Bragg when the first Blackhawk came into Simmons Army Airfield, in late 1978. It was out of Ft. Cambell, and I remember most everyone on the airfield came up to Base-Ops to see it.

Take care,
Frank

Well what do you expect when the UH60 has sucked up so much money that could have gone for other things. LIKE....funding upgrades for the huey. The huey has been severely neglected because it was going to be replaced "any day" by the UH60. Oh, and what will the UH60 be like when it’s as old as the huey? Six hueys (that are at least 30 years old) on a flatbed truck verses One of the 171s UH60Ls that are under 10 years old. HMMM is that what you call fuzzy math? If the army dumped half of what they spent on the UH60 for the huey, it may be a valid argument. Now with that being said, I would love to crew hawks too. You just can’t beat the performance!Evil [}:)]
