UH-60A Pics
Posted by Cobrahistorian on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 8:59 PM
Hey all,

I've been promising these for a while. Finally got over to the hangar with my digital camera. I'm kinda upset because you really can't see just how OD this bird really is. She's painted a VERY light helo drab, almost a Vietnam-era OD!
Plus, the "nipple nose" makes her even more interesting. Enjoy!

One thing I noticed is the well beneath the pilot's seat. Haven't seen that represented on any kit so far. Got a shot of an OH-58C too, here's the office

And this last one was just for giggles... got my new helmet!

I've actually got about 60 shots of this bird. She's the one I'm building in 35th. Gotta order the MH update from CC so I can get all sorts of interior goodies and the radome.

Jin, I'm headed to flight school in 2 weeks, so I kinda needed the helmet.

Jon,
How about sending the walk-around photos to www.primeportal.net ? I'm sure Don Busak would be happy to host them on his referance site. He has quite the growing helo flightline there.

Nice try Jon, I don't think you can log driving around with your bone-dome on as flight time. What's next? You gonna re-finish the inside of your car in black to be NVG compatible?

That's actually a very good question. I happen to know for a fact that within only a few minutes of that picture being taken, Jon had to go thru a gate to take some pix of a TF-102 on display (thanks for getting those BTW). Tell us you made some NCOs day and kept the helmet on!

Back to the Black Hawk - you said it was formerly a VIP bird?

Trigger, we were actually speaking when I took that photo. If you look closely, you can see the mike for my handsfree next to the lip mike! NVG Compatible inside, huh? Well, its mostly black inside anyhow.... funny, the rear is gray inside but the front's mainly black... I've emailed with Don Busack and I think I'm gonna post all 50+ shots on primeportal.

UH-1V CE,

Yep, there are a LOT of Hueys around the field. A few on flight status, a few in the hangar and a few in storage, but they're all there. I'll take some pics next time I'm down there.

That was right when I was parking my car "New York Style" to get a rock-star space in front of the deli (Thank God for my hands free phone!) I'm kinda weirded out seeing that pic and knowing I was on the other end of that conversation. Hey everyone - if you like this shot of our intrepid 2nd Lt. - you're welcome. However, I fear I've given you a bad idea with the NVG comment.

Sekint Lootenints!!! Always goofin'. To bad you don't get to do your first 10 to 15 hours of dual in a Mattel Messerschmitt (aka TH-55) with a surly CW2 whackin' ya upside the head! That'll knock that silly grin off yer mug.
Good luck at MR, Jon.

Now about the OD paint, It may have been painted in Germany or over sees. They CARC paint was very different because of the the restrictions. The Hueys paint jobs over there were very different fro the ones painted here. However, they had a very grat shade to the along with the OD.

Someone in Phoenix actually owns one of those, I see him flying around occasionally and I shudder when I see it. Had a good friend killed in a crash in one of those back in Oct of 68

From work. Jon is an Army Aviator in training. The hangers are the office for him. Nothing in them is secret, you can find UH-60 walk-arounds on many sites.

Thanks Gino!

Yep, that's work for me (although I don't spend nearly enough time over at the hangar). I'm gonna pick up a good digital camera once I get down to Mother Rucker next Tuesday. Can't say I'll have a lot of time to snap pics, but I'll do my best to get you guys some good shots!
