Yes, they are the same MILES belts that are used on vehicles. They can be easily made out of foil, masking tape, or paper. The laser receivers can be made out of sliced rod and painted gloss black.

The little sensors on the straps look like the same ones they put on helmets and other stuff. I guess you could make the straps with lead strips maybe.

I worked on designing a lot of the VISMODS used at NTC back in the early 80s when they were standing it up at Ft. Irwin. We made them here at Fort Lewis first, but then transferred a lot of equipment and personnel to Irwin where they are doing a dynamite job of training the force in desert warfare. Great job, HeavyArty ... keep up the good work.

You got it. It is called a CVKI light (Combat Vehicle Kill Indicator). It blinks continiously when killed, it flashes twice for a near miss. There is also an annoying beeping in the hadsets and a friendly female voice telling you that you are dead.

Yup, we call them Sokol here at the NTC. They represent MI-24 Hind Ds on the battlefield. It looks pretty cool to see the old Hueys still flying around. It was really intersting a few months ago when a National Guard unit had the aviation company attached to them and the Sokols became friendly helos. I think it got shot down more by blue fires (friendly) than it did by red (enemy). Hard to break old habits when you see them coming.

I had heard of these guys before, but this was the first time I saw one in person. They make themselves pretty scarce. Saw him on the ramp at Edwards: http://eje.railfan.net/dpdp/temp/DSCN7880.jpg

These guys do adversary work for the Army at Fort Irwin and other ranges. More info about them here: http://www.almc.army.mil/alog/issues/MayJun01/MS609.htm

It would take a bit of scratch building, but certainly make an interesting model. There's numerous laser targeting and other equipment added.
