Hi Kitbashed,
If you can get hold of the Dragon heli crew (I think there's one on Ebay at the moment selling from the States or I got one sent over to the UK from Redfrog Hobbies) they have a gun mount in that kit but unfortunately only one. I've just tried to get you a link off red frog but have noticed that it's been discontinued. The kit number is 3311.There are some pics of it in other postings on the forum.
I've just checked on Ebay, I think that's gone as well.
Regards, Rich

Pretty close. The Academy kits come with two seated pilots, a seated gunner holding the M60 in his lap, and a standing crew chief holding an M60 by the carrying handle as well. All are wearing the same Chickenplate armor vests just like the DML figures.

plus the M60's were bungee strapped to the roof of the cabin.

Only on the D and H models, that was the M-23 mount. Some gunships had the "sagami" mount but that was not a standard mount. Most M-60's on gunships were hand-held.

Thanks for all the information guys. I can't wait to get started on this sucker. I got the kit yesterday so now I'm just waiting on the Eduard goodies.

I have another question. The kit comes with a figure holding an M60. Didn't some hueys come equipped with a stand for the M60 so the poor guy didn't have to hold it? I know I've seen this, but I don't know if it applies to the gunships. If this was an option, I'd like to maybe scratchbuild the stand to mount the M60. I'm not much for painting figures but I wanted to show the M60 off. Plus, I plan to have the engine panel and doors open so those figures wouldn't look right in that situation.

Please note that mini-gun equiped gunships only carried 7-shot rocket pods, again weight is the factor. Grenade launcher equiped gunships used 19-shot pods, but may not have carried them fully loaded because of weight

Nope, the minigun and grenade launchers were too heavy to have on the aircraft together. That is why you see the minigun and rocket load in the kits.

This is good for Army HUEY's only or those HUEY's acquired from the Army such as the Seawolf's used

I have the UH-1C HUEY FROG (Sharks) and YES!!!! The mini guns do come with it!!!

Sorry but the instruction don't show how to build them. It's easy, just look at some pix of the mini gun and it shouldn't be that hard to figure out. Mine turned out fine!!!

Good luck man!!!

Of course, I guess they wouldn't be that hard to figure out.

Send me an email and I can send you a scan of the instructions back.

I have this kit and yes the mini guns are included. But there are no guide in the instruction sheet on how it goes togather. In your link they show the single sprues, in sprue "C" bottom right hand corner just above the rockets are the mini cun barrels. Same goes with the other Academy huey kit, mini guns w/o any instructions.

Yes, on Sprue C, below, they are on the right side, next to the rocket pod ends with the holes in them. There are six pieces about 1" long. These are the barrels, 2 per piece, 3 get glued together to form one, 6 barrel assembly. The reciever and motor/gear mechanisms are also on the is sprue, below the rocket pod ends.

Here's a link to a review along with sprue shots.

Do you by chance see the miniguns? I've looked until I'm blue in the face!

Depends on which kit you get. The Muskets decaled kit comes with the miniguns. I believe the Frog version with surfing decals comes with all the weapons options from their pervious UH-1B/C kits.

Academy Hueys
Posted by Bones-coa on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 8:30 PM
Ok, I've decided to give up on the 1/24 Monogram Huey and go with one of the 1/35 Academy Hueys. However, I have a question.

I was looking at the Eduard detail sets and the armement set clearly shows mini-guns monuted to either side of the helicopter as well as the grenade luncher on the nose. Now, the two Academy kits I see are not like that. While they both have the grenade lunchers, they both also appear to have rocket pods. I REALLY want the huey with the side mounted miniguns.

Do either of these kits come with the parts and/or the option to build the minguns instead of the rocket pods?
