Turbine's were a little larger, but not enough to make a difference, in fact C and D models used the same engine as while as the M and H model used the same engine. Only major difference between D and H or M and C was the engine.

Latter B, C and D models used the T53-L-11 turbine

H and M models used the T53-L-13 turbine

Main differance is the length of the cabin and a larger turbine engine for more power. 

UH-1C has a short cabin.

 

UH-1D was stretched and had a larger turbine, thus allowing for a larger payload.

 

The D model also has longer, more slender rotor blades and a few other mechanical improvements.

Cheers for the pics they look real nice, as for everybody else thanks for all the input. This model is currently in the planning stage so I don't have a lot of researched material yet so excuse me from my crude assummptions and questions. Just a question what is the major difference between the D and the C versions?

Yep, as everyone said, the Panda kit is pretty much the only game in town if you're looking to do a 35th scale Huey.  The Revell kit has its good and bad points.  Overall it isn't a bad kit, but the windscreen is atrocious. 

It is possible to convert a B model, but you would literally need an entire second kit and parts of a third to do it.  I started mine with two of the MRC C Model kits AND a Revell 1:32 H model that I absolutely hated.  I basically started the conversion like Paul Boyer's stretched C-130 conversion.  Lots of putty and gap filling super glue, the Revell transmission housing cut to shape and the entire engine cowl resized for 1:35th.  It is currently in storage in Dallas, but I do intend on finishing it.  Here's the pics:

In 1/35, Panda's UH-1D/H is the only one out there.  It is O.K., it's scaled up from a 1/48 Italeri model and many of the parts are overscale (rivets) and it is lacking on interior details, doesn't come with M-23 doorgun mounts though. Cobra Company has an upgrade set for it to fix what is missing in the kit, mainly interior parts.

Better bet is the 1/32 Revell model . It is more detailed and a better all around kit then the Panda one. It doesn't come with the M-23 mounts either.   Cobra Company has a couple pieces for it as well.  It is OOP, but comes up on Ebay often for about $20.

For the M-23 doorgun mounts (M60 MGs out each side) as carried by Slicks, Cobra Company does a set in 1/32. For 1/35, you would need to get two of the DML Vietnam Helo Crew figure sets, each has a standing gunner and 1 M-23 mount (clever marketing), the other gunner in the set is seated, holding an M60 on his lap.

The conversion of a "C" to "D" model, in my humble opinion, would be near impossible unless you are skilled in building molds/casting resin, as there are major airframe differences.     I'd recommend just getting the panda release.   I don't know how much detail you want to go into, but the rivots on this kit are molded a bit heavy, so have your sanding technique honed well.

Sorry stuka_69 I don't have an answer. Just lending support. I want a D model also but all you ever find are C's and B's.
 Glad you posted. Maybe there's hope.
