1/72 UH-60?
Posted by echolmberg on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 7:33 AM

Hello everyone!

Does anyone make a 1/72 scale Blackhawk?  I just found out that the husband of a woman I work with flew these while in the service.  I thought it would be a kick to build one for him but I wasn't sure if there was anything available smaller than 1/48 scale.

Thanks for the help,

Eric

Eric,

There are a few 72nd Hawks out there.  Hasegawa and Italeri both make kits of the hawk, and I'd say that the Italeri kit is a bit better on detail.  The Hasegawa represents a very early A model Hawk, while the Italeri kit is a bit more up to date.

Jon,

Thank you for the info!  I'll be on the lookout for the Italeri kit then.  As an avid airplane builder it sort of shocks me to hear the statement about Italeri kit being better on detail.  LOL!

While browsing at my local Hobby Lobby the other day I came across a 1/100 Blackhack put out by Accurate Miniatures!  I never knew they made such things!  I was wondering if they were as wonderful as their 1/48 line of airplanes.  Anyone have any experience with their Blackhawk kit?

Thanks again,

Eric

I've got several of these kits in various boxings. Accurate Miniatures are not the originators of the molds. I first ran across them in Revell boxings. I got the 1/100 SH-60 Seahawk included with a Hunt for Red October Soviet submarine around 1988. Since then I've picked up several of the helicopters from this series including the AH-64A Apache, AH-1G Cobra, UH-1 (unsure of the letter, but Nam era), HH-60 Night Hawk, SH-60 Seahawk and UH-60 Blackhawk.

Some of them are in Accurate Miniatures boxes and some in Revell boxes. I am not a helicopter expert so I can't comment on accuracy, but they are nice little kits. I am not sure who originally made the kits, I think Ace Models from Korea. The Hunt for Red October sub was made by Dragon, so they may have done the helicopters, but this is a guess on my part.

Rob,

Thank you for the great info!  I just happened to stumble across the Dragon/DML kits and got to see how they look in the box.  I'm impressed with their quality in the box.  I, too, am no helo expert by any means.  I think at this point I would take a nice little kit over accuracy.  As I get more familiar with helicopters then I'll look into their accuracy.  Right now I just want to get my feet wet with a decent helicopter kit.

Thank you again.  I think I'm going to pick myself up the AM kit on my way home tonight.

Best wishes,

Eric

I too am looking to build a kit for a vet.  He just returned from Iraq and I would like to build one up for him.  Still haven't decided if I will do it in 72nd (my usualy scale), 48th or 35th.  He is on the other side of the country so will have to ship the completed kit.

Thanks for the update on the Italeri kit.

Tom sent me a bunch of pics while he was in Iraq.  You can see them on my site if you are interested.

Hasagawa did three or four versions of the Blackhawk as well as an early Seahawk., Fair kits

Fujimi did a nice series of Blackhawks too.. Better than the Hasagawa kits.

Italeri has raised panel lines etc..but better than the before mentioned kits.

My choice kit is Revell's Blackhawk their Deserthawk kit is very nice..
