As a by-line, & totally unrelated to helos, but related to the topic - the Australian Army used this very same process to camo our Leopard tanks in the 70's. Sources suggest, 1 Armoured Regiment even had a special pit with the stuff on standby. Rather than doing the job properly, it eventually became common practice until the AusCam scheme was adopted. Necessity is the mother.... as they say.
