Have couple of questions on "C" mod Hueys in Vietnam (1968).

Eduard gives this instructions how to connect the granade louncher ammo chute to the front of the aircraft. On the pic they suggest to glue it right to the left side of instrument panel without any connection or plug or slot.... nothing

I was wondering how was it on the real aircrafts? Was there a special slot for it? Was it there where Eduard shows?

Another question is:

I know that bird I am recreating had only a granade louncher on the nose and m-60 in cabin - no rocket pods, nothing.... The question is which gunsight should I leave in? #1 or #2? Or they both should be in but not in use?

The last question is - What means "slicks"? Does it mean that the aircraft has no armament on sides?

Hi Andy,

In regards to your last question, 'Slick' refers to the transport version. So yes, it would not have any pylons/armament on the sides.

Just an extra note: Nam 'Slicks' did have the side mounted hand opp M-60's

Funny...I never gave it much thought untill now....I always thought of just the D 'stretch' model as a 'slick' when set up for TROOP movements.

The gunsight you have displayed in picture #1 is mounted on all the modern UH-1N's flown by the Marines. It's basically a rocket-aiming retical, and is generally unused by the crews (they use a simple grease pencil mark on the windscreen instead). I don't know much about C models, Army birds, or gunsight #2, but just thought I'd throw in the fact that gunsight #1 is the one used on modern Marine -N models. I don't know how old it is, or if it was even used in Vietnam.

Thanks guys for "slicks" explanations.

About the sights....

Here are some pics of Huey from those days (Vietnam) with both sights...

Besides Academy kit goes with both of them and Eduard gives some add-on's for them too.

I beleve the sight #2 was used for nose mounted granade louncher so it should stay... but the other one not sure. Manual says it was used for rockets and for miniguns when the aircraft was equiped with them. I am just curious what was the situation with slicks? Where they capable of been equiped with rocket pods/miniguns, and if so, where they equiped with #1 sights or not? On the other hand - if this extra armament was uninstalled - did they remove the sight too, or left it there "for the next time"?

Gunsight on the left side was used for the grenade launcher and should be istalled on the models. Ammo chutes ran from the container in the back into the nose along the left side of the center console, there were no slots, etc for them. The Eduard instructions are correct.
