AH-64A Cockpit (back wall references needed)
Posted by albymoore on Monday, November 28, 2005 8:40 AM

Hi Gang,

Does anybody have or know where I can find pics of the area behind the pilot's seat of the Apache? I want add some detail to that area on my Apache model. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Alby

Alby,

I thought somebody here who knows Apache will post photos you need right away but still no answers))))) I'll make a try.

I don't have photos of back wall itself. I looked through the web and here is what I've found - thought it might be helpfull for you.

Aires cockpit for Hasegawa kit is the best in 1/48 scale. Heres the link where you can see detail photos of how they made the back wall))))

http://www.modellversium.de/kit/artikel.php?id=83&origin=cat

Also there are couple of  "colleteral" photos where you can see through the canopy some detail)))

And here is the link to Apache Technical Manuals (very helpfull)

Hope this helps))))

Big Smile [:D]  I've been scouring my photo collection and you've stumped me!  That's probably the only thing I don't have photos of on the Apache.  Give me a little time and I should be able to come up with some good shots of it for you.  I'll be down at Mother Rucker on Sunday and hopefully I'll be able to get a shot or two during some "down time".  Can't promise anything, but I'll try!

Andy,

Thank you for your reply and the links. The Aries cockpit pics will give me something to start with.

Jon,

I know you are very busy with training, so I appreciate the effort. In the meantime I can deal with some of the sub-assemblies and adding detail elsewhere.

Thanks again guys!

Cheers,

Alby,

I should be able to post some pics of the rear wall tomorrow.  We've got an A model cockpit that was actually an aircraft sitting in the Technical Library.  I should be able to take pics of the entire thing tomorrow after class.  I'm planning on spending many many hours there working on the TH-67 cockpit procedures trainer there.

Thanks Alby! Today was pretty much running around like a chicken with my head cut off, although it went much smoother than other in-processing days that I've been through!  Day One down, eight more in Phase I to go through, and then its home for the holidays!  I'll be flying in about six weeks.

No problem Alby, glad to help.  If you need anything more, lemme know.  Things are pretty relaxed around here right now.  Phase I is pretty easy and I've got a lot of down time.  Phase II (flight school) is where things get difficult and I won't have any time to do anything.  I've got one more week of Phase I and then 2 weeks off for the holidays.  Then right back into training!

If anyone's interested, I took a lot of pics of the Apache in the museum here (the #3 prototype) and I think I may attempt it in 32nd scale at a later date.  I was actually surprised as anything to see all of the external differences. At first glance, it really looks like an AH-64A, but as you start looking at the details, it is a very different aircraft.

I am interested in Apaches!!! It would be great to have some close up shots of these avionics compartments aswell as ammo-for-the-gun storage (opened) if its possible))))

Also the other stuff you cant find in usual walkarounds - transmission, drive shaft, engines))))

Oh....yeah! BTW I always wnated to have a photo of whats behind the PNVS thing - I mean the wires and cables which go to it from the hull

Thanks a lot!!!

Andy,

As far as black boxes and avionics stuff, I can't really get any shots of those compartments.  I do have a few shots of the boresight equipment behind the TADS turret (the PNVS is the sensor on top).  Lemme see what I can do. As far as other internal stuff, I'm not sure what I've got.  I now have over 1500 Apache photos to sort through!

Hey Andy,

I also work at Rucker, but for the civilian contrator that maintains the Army helos here. I fix avionics stuff on OH-58Ds currently but when I first started here I worked on AH-64As. Too bad you didn't ask for photos of the avionics bay stuff about a month ago, I may have been able to talk my way into getting some for you. The last of the "A" models have been shipped off and we no longer conduct training with them here anymore, we are now just doing "D" model "Longbow" training.

As far as the wires and cables that go into the PNVS from the aircraft, it all comes through one connection from the below the PNVS. The TADS would easily block your view of this wiring in any scale model. About the only time you would see this connection point is when the PNVS was being changed and the TADS must be in just a certain position to get the connection off and back on.

Hope this helps My 2 cents [2c],

Koek3,

Welcome to the forum!  Since you're at Rucker, I've gotta ask, are there any modeling clubs around here, and where is the nearest hobby shop?!  I brought all of my modeling stuff down with me, even though once I start IERW I probably won't have much time to work on them.

I will be training on the Longbow here in about six months.  They're putting all of us Guard guys through the Longbow course and they're trying to make the Arizona A model course a simple 3-4 week transition course after we get our wings.  I'm looking forward to finally getting my hands on one!
