Revell 1/32 EC-135 Polizie (Kit info)
Posted by AirMedical on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 2:21 PM
Hey Gang,

Anyone familiar with the Revell 1/32 EC-135 Polizie kit?

1.) Does it have both choices of high and low skids?
2.) does it have an air medical interior  and or VIP seating.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year...
John

John,

I have built the EC-135 Polizei helicopter. It does not have an air medical interior, it is set up for passenger seating only. I do believe it did have option for both types of skids. I used the high skids and no longer have the info or parts for the other skid option, so I can't give you an accurate answer for that..........Guess what? ..Just found the kit instructions, and yes, you do have the option of high or low skids. Hope this helps.

Hi Dave,

Thank you very much.  Yes, that was very helpful.
I'm looking to purchase the kit any day now from a local hobby shop.  I really needed the nightsun for one of my BK-117's. and wanted to make the remainder of the kit air medical.  I can swing the conversion I think with little difficulty since I already made some casting molds from the air medical EC135 kit.

Thanks again for taking the time to replay.
Cheers,
John

Hi John,

Sorry to interfere with your posting, but you could also consider the Revell 1:32 ADAC EC145. It has both the Night Sun and a Medical Interior...

Good Luck!

Oh really?!  Cool!  I'm actually eyeing that kit for a medic friend of mine who want's one in a STAT Medevac version.  It's good to know. I have my hands full right now with (3) BK's, (2) 135's and (1) S-76.  When I'm all done with those, then the 145.  It's due here in the U.S. any day now.

Do you know if the 145 is made like the 135 kit?  The BK-117 kit is horrible  For a Revell kit, I was disappointed with the BK.

Thanks for the info!
John :-)

Although I have built one 1:32 BK117 in the distant past, I can't remember how bad it was. I still can see the poor windscreen fit though.

I have my share of trouble with the EC135 as well: carfreights of flash on the fenestron, difficult to assemble main rotor head, inaccurate landing gear and the worst fitting windscreen in the history of modelkits.

I haven't finished the 1:32 EC145 completely yet, until now I have mixed experiences with it: fuselage, windows and windscreen have a very good fit, but there is a major problem with the passenger doors: they are way too big to fit in the fuselage. No problem if you place them in the open position, but a real pain in the neck if you try to model them closed. Free hint: start dry fitting the passenger doors before painting or glueing anything and be prepared for a lot of door- cutting and -sanding!

The 1:32 EC145-ADAC/ Securité Civile kit comes with a load of extras: Searchlight, FLIR, Hoist, two versions of detailed EMS interior, Nose radar dome, Cable cutters, Optional extended skids and Flotation gear. Rear clamshell doors can be positioned in open position.

Good luck!

Oh yah, I hear ya about the 135 rotor head.  I learned from the first kit.  There is some sanding required that's for sure.

My 135 kits didn't have much flash really.  Nothing real bad.  Just a little clean up.

Thanks for the heads up on the 145.  With all the goodies that come with the kit, I'm looking forward to it. Regarding the doors, I guess I would rather have them over sized then undersized.  I guess I'll find out one day soon.  This is the version I would like to do it in.

Regarding the 145, you have any pictures?! :-)

I've built a lot of 1/32 Revell kits in my day.  Jet Ranger, UH-1D, Cobra, 105, 117, 135.  I enjoyed all of them.  But the 117 was the worst.  Warpage, poor fitting-assembly, brittle parts, and fixed rotor head.  Lots of patching, sanding and filling.  I recall that someone from Revell Germany said that the 117 mold was going to need some retooling work before they ever realease any more individual 117 kits.

Thanks again!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!
John

Sorry John, no pics: I'm affraid I am the last person left with no digital camera yet, but that saves me from having to show examples of what I call modelling!...

Love the Stat MedEvac bird. Seems that the Revell kit has some stuff you need: the cable cutters along with the pointed skid extensions. I don't know about the Stat MedEvac interior ofcourse and it suddenly struck me that the Stat MedEvac machine also has a different (smaller) nose dome than the ADAC machine has (which is in the Revell kit). Maybe you could use the EC135 nose dome for that, which also happens to be included in the EC145-kit!

Good luck,

Gertjan

Gertjan,

What you call modeling?  Clearly you haven't seen my work.  :-)

None of my EC-135 kits (ADAC) have the noze dome.  However, The Polizie kit does?  I will have that in about a week or so.  I'm sending payment this weekend.  I was going to use the expoy putty quick stick and mold one for my 135's.  Same for the noze dome on the BK.  It also makes a great filler.

We have two STAT Medevac bases here in Ohio.  Since I collect air medical pins, I have some contacts and they're pretty good about pictures and such.  They're a pretty nice out fit.  They fly into the area from time to time.

I'm finishing up finals week and after next week, It  will free me up to get back to work on the models.

Cheers,
John

Yes, the EC135 Polizei-kit has a nose dome. As a matter of fact: most of the exra "police-items" are on one sprue in the EC135- Polizei kit: search light, FLIR, nose-dome, hoist, alternative landing gear parts, mirror. This same sprue is also included in the EC145 ADAC kit.

Good luck on your finals!

By the way,  not sure if you guys are talking about the same ADAC set but there is also the Revell ADAC 100 year aniversary set that has three (3) 1/32 birds for around $40.00 retail!  The set is about three years old but they are still readily available.  It comes with the EC-135, BO-105, and the BK-117.  The EC-135 has the aeromed interior. The BK and BO are pretty generic but there is enough room to keep any scratch-builder and super-detailer busy for a long time. The BO does come with two figures and loud speakers.

If you want a crew, the Dragon 1/35 Vietnam aircrew set fits nicely in 1/32 helos (if you detail wth restraints, etc...there is no no discernable difference in scale, and they are easily modified to a civilian crew. Hope this helps.

Be Brave, Fly Straight, Navy Sar Dawgs!

Thanks FMF Doc, I was considering buying the ADAC anniversary-set (just because of the 1:32 BK117 that is not released 'on its own' anymore), but needed info on the interiors. Glad to see that pilot figures are included; I haven't been able to get a hold on the Dragon crew lately.

Btw: The ADAC machine I was referring to in the earlier posts, is the new Revell EC145. Unfortunately it is not included in the ADAC-anniversary set: I like the EC145 kit a lot more than the EC135.

Thanks again!

Hi 46 Doc,

E-Hobbies had the ADAC Anniversary kit on sale for a nice price but seems they're having difficulty getting more in stock. It was like paying $8 per kit individualy.

Back in the 80's I had an old KLM BO-105 kit that I converted to EMS.  It was an easy fab for EMS.   I did it in the old Univ. of  Cincinatti Air Care BO-105.  It was the best modification I've ever done.  High skids, custom decals, etc.  I had the head sets hanging in which I used ink pen springs for the head set cords.  I was almost finished until my work hit the floor.  Enough said.  I would like to see Revell upgrade the 105 to the now BO-15CBS which are now made stretched.

I was working on one of my BK's last night butting the main body together.  Man!  What a nightmare. Nothing like the 135 which I love.  Now from what Gertjan has said, I gotta get me a 145!

Cheers,
John

I had the EC-145 in my hand the other day but thought better of it since I am still working on both the 1/48 SAR and CASEVAC versions of the CH-46 and just picked up the old ESCI 1/48 UH-1D MEDEVAC kit, for $10.00 at a local IPMS chapter show!

Think I'll wait till Mrs.Claus gets over the holiday budget kick before I splurge on the 145!

I am the Navy Liaison Instructor at the Army Flight Medic course and we fly the UH-1 there so between tho low cost and my love for my job, the Mrs. was sympathetic.

The Academy CH-46E kit comes with markings for both of my old sqaudrons. HMM-162 who I flew with in Iraq and HMM-261 who I flew with in Bosnia. The new release for the Navy CH-46D comes with all the SAR options.

The Navy has just fielded it's first HH-60S Hawks in the air ambulance mode. We are expanding our frontline Casualty Evacuation(CASEVAC) to help ease the load on the Army Air Ambulance Sqaudrons. The Academy 1/35  MH-60G Pavehawk kit can be built straight from the box and the litter stanchions( no carousel like the Army) are easy to build. Three litters on each side. Just paint it light sea gray and put USN markings and your good to go. The red cross issue is still up in the air because the units are originally CSAR squadrons and we like to be able to shoot back!

Now that I got off the subject, and to answer AirMedical, the ADAC kits in the anniversary set do come with the VIP seating options. Other than that the interiors are pretty well empty but all of the ADAC decals are top quality and with a good panit job and light weathering the finished exterior will steal the show.

Fly Safe!

Oh yah!  I loved the old 80's ESCI kits.  The 1D, 206 and 105.  The variety versions were great from military to my favorite, police and air medical.  Nice kits.  They were just right.

So, what was the 145 priced at?

We used to have the Army 316th Medical Detachment were I live.  They were closed early 90's during the Clinton office.  They flew 8 UH-1H's (late 60's and early 70's models.)  All Vietnam ships.  Great group of guys.  Every time I visited, they were so professional and nice. I almost got to go fly with them on a ride along.
Here's all my photos.

Hueys may be old, but they keep thumpin, and thumpin and thumpin and thumpin.....

I've been chatting with Santa myself.  I have a 12/12 pitch roof and he was having difficulties visiting.  So I told him he could do a one skid on, one skid off with no problem.  The raindeer and hold a nice hover.  And if he has to, the raindeer can do a two hoof on two hoof off.  :-)  I did mention I'm tired of the black rocks he's been leaving me for the last three years.  ;-)

Over Christmas I'll be working on my birds.  I have finals today and I need a break.  My head hurts.

I have a couple SAR pins from Germany, Japan and Hong Kong.  http://hometown.aol.com/johnsengr/collection.html

Sure would like to see some of your work.  Hope to see you post some pics.

I have a 1/48 Revell presidential that's a nice kit but the rotor head is incorrect and funny.  I would like to try and find a spare HH-60 rotor head to replace it with.  Aint nothing like a Sikorsky.

Keep up the good work!
John

Hey,

The 145 was about $30.  Oh the price we pay for that good old Revell Germany box art......

Santa needs an upgraded avionics package. A one time investment in Hover Dopler might do the trick. Then again, it's not as much as getting to short haul an elf from chimney to chimney!

I know he has a nice GPS system.  Our local EMS service in town flight follows when he's in the hood.
You figured he would of ugraded the avionics when he got the GPS.  Go figure.

$30 sounds about right.  I guess that would be the same by the time you find a good deal on the internet and pay shipping.

Cheers,
John
