Wish my LHT was like that evertime i go in there there watchin some movie on the tv and you usualy have to ask for help exept on saturdays thats when Bob works hes an older guy likes plastic kits hes the only one i talk to everyone eslse seems stuck up or if you dont mess with R/C stuff they wont give you the  time of day and if you do have a question about plastics or in the field of they say Oh bob only works on saturdays you can check back then, shoot i live 30 miles out side of town iam not gona wait so when i heard this new place opened up the hobby depot i gave it a shot and thats where i buy my stuff at now family owned  and real friendly i was lookin for a panel scriber and the owner overheard me saying no scribers so i bought some tape insted.  the next time i came in I  ask about them she said yep he orderd them and put them on the shelve they even have the kids helpin out. now thats the kind of  hobby shop that makes you go back.

one of my lhs has 6 guys (includ owner)

3 full time 3 pt time

each guy has a modeling specialty

he like most (not all) charge full list on stuff

but has specials for 20-40% off

and has a frequent buyers card ( basically a business card)

but it gives you a 10% discount and he charges a 10 buck annual fee for it

the first 1-3 purchases you make pay for the card and the rest is saved in your pocket

It seems like the owner of my LHS is too busy watching over his shop to build much.  It seems like he knows all there is to know about scale models, RC cars and aircraft, comics, anime, and RPG's (Roll Playing Games).  His shop is open 6 days a week and he doesn't have any employees.  He's dedicated.

I go to the same shop as Chris and he forgot to mention a couple things.

1. If he doesn't have it he WILL order it for you right then and there in front of you and you'll have it in a week or so. Depending on the day you order it. (Thursdays are delivery days)

2. He opened up a small back room for us and reserves it so we could have a little model club that meets 2 times a month free of charge.

I would say very fare....indeed in most cases the same as internet.

Did I mention a supply of goofy stuff like mini R/C cars & subs?, toys for tots, wood train stuff, balsa airplanes,  a half an isle for glues alone! one whole wall for plastic model aircraft with 1/4 of it just HELOS!!

AND! a section called 'Scratch and dent' kits...  these are kits he buys at 1/3 the wharehouse prices just because they are dented or returned with no obvious problems.  I have found many 'diamonds in the rough - if I may --that way! Most are sealed in origianl plastic with NO problems....some are just over stock or not good sellers.  I got a Hasagawa 1/32 F4J kit for 14.00 bucks one day!....that same section is great for just extra parts or KIT BASHING!

Now how jealious are ya? Big Smile [:D]

Here is the site: http://www.galaxyhobby.com/

If you hit 'clubs' then the Sci-Fan club I'm the geek with the white t-shirt in the center behind Godzilla.   Bob also is our leader there too....he is a HUGE sci-fi dude.....he did some studio work and if anyone remembers a MacGyver episode involving a Russian sub...( I think ) he built and opperated that and he is building a R/C 1/1 scale R2D2 as well.  There are members there in that pic that do work on the NEW Battle Star Galictica, some garage kit makers and model designers.  One member flies the BIG! Rockets down in Arizona ( I think ) The kind that need FAA clearance for launch.....we are very lucky indeed.

Plus a big selection of N and HO train stuff, R/C ( a full staff of Knowledgeable folks from all hobby backgrounds ) lots of TOOLS! a whole isle of PAINTS! Yes.
In fact he gives a discount to members of the local club, discounts on special orders, and has been known to sponsor his own make and take for cub scouts.
He doesn't dab much in RC, but the guy knows trains.

Don

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

Now Bob is an AWESOME guy not only does he own and opperate our local Hobby shop he flies REAL kit aircraft and his son flies big cargo for the USAF.  He's working on R/C CH47-E as we speak.

Gotta love it when more and more small hobby shops are fading out.
