Agree with the above.  Only SOF helos, specifically, 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment), Nightstlakers of Blackhawk Down fame are in Flat Black.

Klaus is right.  We sent ours through the paint shop a couple of years ago and helo drab is MUCH darker when it is fresh than when it has been subjected to years of sun, sand and aircraft soap.  Most active duty units don't have very many opportunities to get their fleet painted, they feel fortunate if they are able to get one painted at all.  After a few years the paint begins to take on somewhat of a gray tone that makes the fresh helo drab seem very dark.  Most units try to send their best plane to an airshow so one that has been recently painted is likely to go.  If the birds that you saw at an airshow appeared black with drab UNITED STATES ARMY on the tail cone, they were most likely SOF aircraft.

Klaus-  Having problems getting the rest of the pics to you.  I think that I filled up your inbox.

This argument has been discussed many times before, so I feel entitled to answer in behalf of HavyArty. We came to the following conclusion:

"Standard" Army Hawks are olive drab (which can be pretty dark but not black), Nightstalkers' Hawks (and Hooks and LBs) are flat black.
Due to weathering the color may assume various shades, but the colors mentioned before are the ones they get when they come out of the factory (almost).

Welcome aboard.  The MRC/Academy 1/35 UH-60A/L model has been discussed here a lot.  Many of us have built it as well.  You will find all the info you need here.  Here is the first bit of help.

I have no clue at this point what number #000000 color from testors to use.

All standard UH-60s are painted overall US Army Helo Drab Green, FS # 34031.  Testors Model Master makes it in both their acrylic and enamel lines.

Check here for some great builds and tips as well.  U/H/MH-60 Group Build thread

I'm not arguing with you Heavy, as I am sure you know more than I do about the subject, however, it seems like every BlackHawk I have seen at airshows and such, have been black. Is there another version that is painted black, or is the green so dark it just looks black? I just got my kit today to and I was wondering what was up with it being Drab Green? Thanks.

Oh, and sorry for hi-jacking the thread Big Smile [:D]

Good to have you around!  It is a great kit.  I work on them and I can't complain too much.  If you have questions, there are alot of guys here with first hand experience with the aircraft and the kit.  I would also suggest looking through the posts as far back as you can go.  I know that the kit has been a topic of discussion as long as I have been here.  If your questions aren't answered there, ask.

Don't know much about this other than it really looks detailed - large box retailed for $59
Is anyone else doing this one?
Thanks
Donnie
I usually post in the ships section, but this copter looks really nice. I have no clue at this point what number #000000 color from testors to use. I will wait when I get into box at xmas time.
