Posted at Armorama.  Looks like they got the scoop and an advance copy of the kit.  It looks awesome and has proper Vietnam era 1st CAV markings.

Here is a sample:

I think they goofed on the crew entry door....I believe on all Hooks the top section swings inward and gets pinned on the roof?

......and I guess that answers our questions 100% about this kit being strickly an 'A' Hook.

Nice link and nice pictures!

The CE Door was retracted inward from the top, slid up and in via tracks, and stowed along the top cabin with the inside of the door visible.

Also, the aft ramp door is attached to the main ramp itself and is stowed WITHIN it.     In other words, the ramp can't be down with the aft cover still attached to the fuselage.

There are several structural area's that will need addressed if one wants to make this model an accurate depiction, especially on the front.     I think I'm going to wait around and see if anyone produces an alternate front end for the beast before tackling it.

Take care,Smile [:)]

Thanks Frank.....I forgot about the tracks for the upper door half.

Here is pic of the ramp on a late model which I believe is roughly the same as the A. You can see where the top section slides out of the rear of the main ramp opening....GEEZ! talk about a tight fit!

Yup...Its a crying shame that Trumpeter or whom ever did not do their homework on this one Sad [:(]

Unbelievable.... In the age of INERTNET and all other ways to get info they make absoluteley wierd mistakes and offer them to us for 150$. I'd like to look into eyes of the man who did the research on Chinooks for Trumpeter.

106.00 pre-order to 130.00 retail is more like it.

Still your right....Even the tail area just above the the cargo opening does not look 100% correct.

This is not like those Sci-Fi guys bitching and aurguing over TV and Film items that do not even exsist or worse just CGI and not even a filming model Question [?] I do not think that we as the buyers are asking too much for a kit that cost that much and have waited 35 years for...... more or less.

I took a look at all the pics, & I've seen some errors that have not been mentioned.

The inst. panel should be all grey, with no black at all.  The engine condition levers (throttles to the fixed wing folks) should be on the center console, just about where you see those two empty parallel slots.

Another pic shows the front of the aircraft with three pitot booms.  The A model only had the one in the center, above the center windscreen, not the two mounted lower down.  The windshield wipers are in the wrong position.  They should be parallel to the center windshield framing.  The way they are positioned now, they are right in the middle of the pilots field of  view.

Moving to the back end, the door that is covering the upper part of the cargo ramp opening should not be there when the ramp is down.  That door actually slides inside the ramp when its retracted.  I think they got the ramp door of the CH-46 confused with a CH-47. Next, take a look at the rear landing gear.  While most of the A models did have the dual rear wheel landing gear assembly, the wheels were a lot smaller than the fwd gear wheels.  Those are the same size as the fwd gear.

The next pic  shows the fwd cabin entrance.  The upper door is not hinged like that at all.  In fact, there are no hinges on the upper door at all.  It slides on rollers along a track inside the fuselage, & lays flat against the cabin roof when fully open.  I’ve already mentioned the pitot tubes & windshield wipers, & this gives a better illustration.  Also, if you look on top of the fuselage, you can see two teardrop shaped bumps.  Those are formation lights, better known as slime lights.  I really don’t think the -47 got those till the C model came out .

The next pic shows the ramp door obstructing the ramp entrance.  Like I said earlier, it slides into that dark are in the ramp you see in this pic.  The interior does looks that empty, but only when the seats are removed.  The only time we ever remove the seats is when a maintenance action requires us to do so.  Also the seats are red, & fold up flat against the sides when we need to get them out of the way.

The pic under that shows those (I think) incorrect slime lights.  Also, on current -47s, that square shape is one of the GPS antennas, a feature not found during the Viet Nam era.

The FOD screens on the engines in the pic under that are not quite the right size, as they should come more to a point than that, & part of my brain is saying that the -47didn’t have those screens till the B model was fielded.

Lastly, the tires on the gears are too small, & the wheels to big.  The actual tires have a much taller sidewall than those low-profile racing tires that come with the kit.

There are some things right with the kit, & I will post them later today, as my lunch hour is up.

Its good to see a -47 represented as a model, but after working on the real thing for almost 14 years now, I have no intrest in building a model of it for myself, but I'll be happy to pass on any info I can.

Good points but most of the items you mentioned are very easy fixes and the color of the control panel....well thats just a paint option.

The earlier parts lay out pics shown on this board did show the ramp top & bottom in sections so I believe that correcting the ramp problems should be easy and I thought I remember seeing the bench parts as well.

For the 'A' I'm going to make a few minor corrections and just have fun with it.....I'm waiting for the 'D' kit to get serious.

Still I'm glad to have this kit!

This build up shows the upper crew door in its 'correct position?'

I wasn’t trying to trash the model (and no one said I was).  P E 64 got it right when he said they were easy fixes.  I was just pointing out the easy fixes.  Here are some more easy fixes to the model in the pic above.  The entire cockpit in the current D model is black.  Soundproofing, instrument panel, bulkheads, circuit breakers, seats frames, everything. The only variation that I can think of is that the early D models had red seat cushions in both pilots seats.  Those went away in the late 90’s.  Also, the fire extinguisher has always been red, & the first aid kit in the companion way is  meduim green

The landing gear struts & wheels are the same dark green as the rest of the aircraft, not white.  All the external antennas on the aircraft are black, not green.

The open panel over the landing gear is the access for the single station re-fuel panel, & access panels for the fuel tanks (smaller guys can actually fit through the panels to get into the tank)  Almost everything inside that space in black.  There are unpainted metal & anodized red fuel transfer tubes in there, along with a red fuel cap. The area around the fuel tank access panels are a gray-green color.

I spent some time asking some of the older guys who worked on & crewed  A models about those models as compared to the current D model.  Turns out that the low-profile fwd gear wheels are correct for an A model.  I remember seeing one of the few remaining A models last year, & the fwd gear wheels & tires looked like they came of a jet trainer from the 50’s .

From what I can tell, a good portion of the "issues" seem to be build errors, not really problems with the kit.  I am just glad it is almost here. I will deal with its issues as needed.  Still a most welcome kit.

I can live with the minor details...

But can I live without this kit...?

Thanks for the update HeavyArty.

I understand that it isn't a very accurate model and beeing an -A I suppose a conversion to a MH47-E would me more work than I am willing to do ... too bad ... well I guess I'll have to wait for a future release or a conversion kit.

I am so looking forward to this kit.

Can anyone tell me the differences between the A model and the C model? I would like to model a RAAF 12SQN Chook when i can.

Thanks

Hi there Grimmo!!

The A model Hook is ofcorse the first of the Hooks and the differances ar many!!   First the aft rotor pylon of the A model is tapered to a sharp edge on the back, where as the B C D E F G models all have the squared of edge.

The C had its pitot moved from ubove the windshield to the the left side of the nose.   The C has bigger FOD screans on the engines.

The rotor blades are tricky. The early  C models were fitted with the same old slim blades used on the A and B model Hooks serving in Nam but some of the later C models were fitted with the much wider fiberglass blades that are used on all Hooks to day.

You might be better off if you wait just a little bit longer untill Trumpeter releases there CH-47D becouse the C has much more in commin with the D then it does with the A.  I'm thanking that the CH-47D should be releasing in the next month or so. It's the version that I'm am most excited about but I do want want the CH-47A also for some great Nam era projects.

I hope I've been of help to you.

Good luck!!

Thanks Mark! I guess I'll just do the A model to start off with, and wait until the D comes out. Gosh, Darn, what a pity, as i will have to buy 2 of them. One to back date to a C model, then one as a D model, to go with the blackhawk i'm just about to start. Now I'll have to go out and get some crew members, some Austeyrs, maybe a landrover or 2!
