When I started my career, in the USCG,  I thought I wanted to do that.
One MEDEVAC off the coast of Newfoundland and I was hooked. ( I wasn't the patient!).
One year later I was a Flight mechanic in the USCG and after that a rescue swimmer.
My favorite quote," When we saw the airplane we knew you guys found us, when we saw the helicopter, we knew we were saved."
That was what the captain of the FV Majestic told me as I got him out of the rescue basket.
