I model in 1/72 and have the Hawkeye Models conversion kit.  They recommend the SH-B kit, no mention of the H.  So, in your guyz opinion, would a better base kit be the H model?

I would think that an H model would be a better starting place, since it is basically a modified H airframe that you are trying to end up with.  I would check the conversion kit carefully though, if it wasn't made for the specific H model kit, some parts may not fit correctly.

Good deal!  Not only do I get to buy another kit, I can also have a B for ASW ops!  Best of both worlds.

Opinions please, everyone, on the best kit in 1/72 for a H model 60.  Thanks!

Don:  Fear not!  I have two of these to build yet.  One in Orange and one in White.  They'll make good company for my MH-68.

To tell you the truth, I don't know exactly how I'm going to do it, but it doesn't look too complicated. Part of the problem is I don't know what bumps and parts are in the HH-60H kit. I haven't been able to find any reviews and the only pictures of a built/in progress one I can find are on ARC and they are of an updated one with resin, etc! So, I have to get the kit first.

The other part of the problem is I'm a college student, so it may be some time before I can actually begin this. I'm going back down to New Orleans over spring break to gut houses (I was there over winter break, too) so it'll probably have to wait until summer! (By the way, I would encourage everyone who has the chance to go down to the Gulf Coast and help out. The area is still greatly in need of help, and will be for a long time, no matter what any politicians may say!) My plan is actually to make a dio of a jayhawk rescuing someone from a roof in NO. Just my little way of honoring the crews.

I just compared some J and H photos and it appears to my uneducated eye, that Mr. HeavyArty is correct.  Thumbs Up [tup]  Now, whyfor how come, do the resin conversion folks and others, recommend starting with SH-B's for the Jays?  What am I missing here? Question [?]

Actually, even the noses look pretty close, outside of all of the lumps, bumps and other tumors to me.  Which means I'm missing something............

Issue is scale.  No HH-60H kit is made in 1/48 scale, only SH-60Bs.  So, if you want an HH-60H or an HH-60J in 1/48, you have to convert an existing SH-60B by Italeri.  Cobra Company provides the 1/48th conversion kit for you to do this.  They don't make a conversion kit in 1/72.

There is an HH-60H in 1/72 though.

Here are a couple of good HH-60H conversion article as well:

And how about a 1/35 HH-60H?

You are correct, the HH-60H can convert easily into a J.  The nose is going to be the hardest to convert.  Good luck with it.

I want to build a 1/72 HH-60J, but I don't really want to spend too much on a resin conversion (I also want to practice scratchbuilding). All of the -60J's I've seen use the SH-60B as the base, but it seems to me that the HH-60H would require MUCH less modification to turn it into a -60J. Is this right or am I missing something? Can I just take the Italeri HH-60H and add the neccessary bumps or is there something substantially different that would require cutting up the airframe?
