UH-1C transmission again

1. The flooring is stainless steel plating(if I remember right) with a diamond pateran(sp)

2. The hole below the transmission is the "hell hole" and filled with all kinds of things such as flight controls, plumbing, cargo hook, if installed

That's all I can remember right now. I have no photo's of that area, nor do I of the bulkhead in front of the transmission. See if you can find the TM(-20) for the HUEY, would be your best bet.

You are doing a fine job there!  Something I've always wanted to do, but haven't as yet.  If you can wait a couple days I'll try and get some pictures I have taken of a "Mike" model that was on display some years ago.  All the cowling was off, engine missing but the transmission and all the hydraulic pumbing was still there.  The "pipe" #20 is actually an transmission oil line I would suspect with the breakaway fitting represented .  There is a retangular hole under the square transmission support that was called the "hell hole" for reasons apparent when attempting to work on any lines or hydraulic servos.  This is directly over the area where the cargo hook is.  The hook is acutally hanging by a link to a main beam on "Hotel" models.  I didn't crawl under the "Mike" model to visit the "hell hole".  The model has a cargo hook glued to a recessed pan.  Not correct.  Back to the tranny deck.  Lots of plumbing and two hydraulic reservoirs  on fwd bulkhead, area #3 and the engine oil reservoir against the aft bulkhead.   Just about where you have the #1 is an inverted bowl covering access to the Fuel pump .  A braided fuel line exits the 5 o'clock of the bowl and goes to the aft inside corner of fuel cell.  I'll do my best get the pictures either copied with my digital camera and E-mail them or attempt to install a new scanner I got for Christmas.  Not a computer guru and hate messing with new "stuff"!   Keep up the great work!

What color is it BTW? Is it painted or stays mettalic?

No, it's not that pattern at all.  It's more like the pattern of the soundproofing blankets only with about 1/4 in. "diamonds".   It usually is the shiny stainless steel that is is made from.  It is the outter layer of the "honeycomb" panel.  It may show up in the pictures that I have.  I have one more day home then back to work for 7 days offshore.  I'll definitely get you something in a couple weeks at the longest.  I'll try and get you something tomorrow before I leave.  You may give me some inspiration to get back to work on mine.

When you do get the pictures you will notice the swashplate ears are different that the one in the kit.  It's actually for a "Bravo" model.  The rotating ring is slightly different in shape too.  Little things like that have kept me from finishing mine.  I kept finding more things to fix!   Ha, ha!

I've got couple of great photos of transmission compartment from Mel recently. This is UH-1M (I am building C) but as far as I know - they where allmost same thing.  The question is about these green fuel pump covers on both sides of transmission mount. I was wondering - is it just an M mod feature or Charlies also had it? Anybody can confirm this?

The pictures I sent Andy are of National Guard birds they were flying in the early 90's.  So it is possile the fuel pumps on the topsides are mod's after the early 70's.  That is why he is asking about it.  I'll have to try and see if any of our old Crew Chiefs in the Sharks remember the "toe catchers".
