CH-54A Skycrane

Hi there. I got this 1/72 kit by Revell & was wondering if anybody has built this kit. Are there any existing AM/PE parts for this kit? TIA.

Read on a forum (don't know if it was this one) that Hawkeye from Australia is about to release extras for the Revell SkyCrane.

i have it 1/2 built i stopped be cause i got sick of it

i got to go to the lhs and buy 6-7 more tubes of putty to finish the kit

the fuselage was so warped i  had to use tenax 7 to bond it with clamps i let it dry overnight took the claps off about 3 min later 1/2 the fuselage flew by my face and the other 1/2 went the other way

the model really bites

but thats my story and like anything else i got a lemon you could have a good one   good luck man

My kit thank g wasn't as warped as Joe's, but I'm still not too pleased with the results. That's got more to do with the looks of the front end: Revell has the cockpit part completely wrong ( but remember it's a kit from the '70's). Frontal glazing looks like s*&#^. Doors are in the wrong place. These faults are very difficult to correct...

Not too many detail on the rest of the kit (esp.engines and rotor head) as well.

But: it's all we have, CH54-wise!

Let's hope that someone (Hawkeye) will make a decent replacement cockpit.

So: good luck, and if you're not prepared to completely reshape the cockpit, don't be too critical on the looks of the kit.

I completed mine in Ericson Aircrane colors, and it turned out OK, not stellar, but OK. I used true details wheels for it (Some 1/48 scale cessna T-37 wheels I think), looked better than the buttons in the kit. I kinda wanted to build another one with the tank on it, but I have too many projects on the go.

The detail is low, but it kinda looks like an aircrane.

I did mine several years ago. And like you all. no detail parts. I made parts for the engines, cockpit, rotor head, tail rotor and transmissions.  I too finished mine in Ericksons livery.  It was a bear.  to do took nearly 3 years to complete. Worked on other project. I like how it all finally came togather.  Keep at it

DeejeeZ-

I know what you mean about the front end being AFU. However, if you can find a decent SH-3 you can hack the nose off and fit it to the CH54 (the Crane and the Sea King share the same basic cockpit, lower fuselage aside that is.)

I stand corrected!

Air5: looking great!Smile [:)]Wow!! [wow]

Nasa738: combining the S64 with an SH3 upper cockpit, now that would be an idea! Thanks!Cool [8D]

Maybe though, we won't have to go through that if the HawkEye-rumour would be true...Big Smile [:D]
