1/72 Sikorsky S-76 build.

Hey Gang,

O.k.  Here's the latest on my 1/72 S-76 that a couple of you out there wanted me to keep you up to date on.  So here's the latest.

Kit information.

By: Hong Kong Creation Worshop
Status: Discontinued
Tooling: Oned by the Hong Kong Modeling Club.
Scale: 1/72  (Actually lsmaller by approx. an inch)
Type Listed: Sikorsky S-76 (Actually S-76A+)
Versions: Hong Kong Governement Flying Service & Hong Kong Royal Auxilliary Air Force.
Decals:  Nice
Material:  PU Resin w/ some styrene parts.

Comments
I came very close to scraping the kit in the trash.  What a nightmare!  This kit is not for amitures by any means.  The kit is very brittle and warped.  I had to set it aside for a couple months before getting my marbles and nerve back to tackling it.

It's a not bad looking kit. It does have some deep panel lines and a bunch a tiny small parts. Interior detail is not worth mentioning.  (Lacking overall)  When assembling the body, lots of cracking and shaddering.  No forcing seams together whatsoever.  Left gaps as is and patched w/ green and white Squadron putty and superglue.  You can't tell but the noze shattered.  (This is when I almost scrapped it)  Sufice it to say, lots of repairs and patching.  (I saved it!)

I'm debating on doing it in the NY/NJ PAPD version (Port Authority Police Department) or converting it to an S-76C (Modify the tail) and making it as Angel One of Little Rock, Arkansas flying for the Arkasas Childrens Hospital.

There's a rumor that Revell is going to do a 1/72 S-76.  Rumor mind you.  Let's hope that it's true.
I did have another one of these kits but I'm affraid I have been left empty handed.  Only time will tell.  Live and learn.

Here's some pics of where I'm at for the moment.  If they're Xed again.  I have the album link also. You can click on the image for a slightly bigger picture.

.

Best of luck completing the model - it sounds like you have put a lot of work into it already. Don't loose heart! Keep plugging away and all will be well!

When the Hong Kong Gov. sold the 76 A+ s to upgrade to the C we bought then and upgraded them to 76A++ models - no changes except for paint and a HF antenna aside from that an A+ to A++ is just upgraded engines.
I am flying SN 760297.

As to panel lines - except for the gear doors and  the engine cowlings a 76 is a pretty smooth a/c

Attached are 1 photo from the cockpit on approach to an oil rig in the Persian Gulf and 2 of the A/C on the deck and helipad. Before anyone asks the two blade antenna on the nose are for the "Homer" A radio that lets us home in on VHF FM VHF AM radio signals as well as ELT signals.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the A/C in Hong Kong colours as it was a beautiful paint design.

Click for full version of the photos- especially the first one.

Awe man!   You're a lucky guy.  I love the S-76's; my favorite helo.  Nice looking ship, not to mention a fine view from the front office.  Wink [;)]

We have four S-76A's in our area flying for Life Flight.   Back in the 80's I had assisted with doing the LZ a couple times.  Man!  The rotor wash off those things.  LOL!
Here's some pics I took back in the 80's.  Helo Pics.

No, not loosing heart on this one.  I just got my nerve back. Hee-hee!  I'll be applying a base white to it any day now once we get a warm spell.

I still have yet to get around to making a scratch 1/48 and 1/32 S-76.  My goal is to vacuum form the bodies.  Gee, I've only been saying that for about....five years now.  It's that free time thing.

Thanks for sharing the photos.  Awsome!
Fly safe,
John  Smile [:)]

Thanks a lot for the pictures, John & Sharkbait!

John: do you happen to know anything about the Legato S76- kit? I remember you had info about it in an earlier thread, but I cannot find it. On HKN it was said that it was put on the shelf because of the Revell S76-rumour.

You seem to be doing great on the kit; if it had been mine, I'm affraid I would have thrown it away...Banged Head [banghead]  Good luck with it and keep us informed!

Hey Gertjan!

The Legato rumor still stands as you stated.  I was told  by one of the partners (repeatedly) that he would keep me informed.  Not so much as a peep. Confused [%-)]  Zip, zero, nada.

I'm a Revell fan so let's keep our fingers crossed!  I still would prefer 1/32.

Thank you for your kind words.
Cheers,
