Just received News from Saúl García re: an Upcoming Release.

This time, it hails from MRC. They are Academy's US distributor.

This is a big (24” from the tip of its main rotor blades to the tip of its tail) 1/48 scale Academy Plastic Model Helicopter. It's the US Marines version of the CH-53E Super Sea Stallion

This 3-engine, seven bladed chopper has interior as well as exterior detail, and can be built with folded or open blades, open or closed tail section, open or closed hatches, doors and rear cargo door. Inlcuded is the expected detailed cockpit, with engraved instruments on the cockpit panels; pilot’s windows, cabin and cargo doors that can be assembled open or closed; and deep inside the cabin there is MRC’s exclusive “second skin” interior walls; the ribs; the padding; the troop seats; and two .50 caliber machine guns. Also, this CH-53E has main rotor grips, lag dampers and swash plate details.

Anticipated MSRP: $90.00USD each
Available in the US in April 2006

Thanks SSgt.

I've been waiting for news about this kit for a while.  90 bucks huh, it's doable.

Best case scenario is that Hobby Lobby stocks this baby and you grab one when they go 50% off...

No matter, this helo is one of the three or four on my "Must Have" list, I'll be getting one sooner or later, along with the 1/48 Hook and the 1/35 Stryker.  I don't think the stash shelf can handle too many more boxes until I actually get some kits built!

Something to look forward to, that's for sure.

Thanks for the heads-up.  I've been thinking of getting it and Trumpeter's LAV so they can sit side-by-side on the shelf.

I think I've added it to me Great Model's wish list, along with about a thousand dollars worth of AM and kits that I'd like to get "someday."

May have to hit them up and add Big Iron and Hook to the list as well...

Good lord, I just put it on preorder with spruebrothers........what was I thinking? Propeller [8-] Ah well, I know it will be worth it to have this bad boy rounding out the 1/48 USMC collection.

The kit-buying bug bit in a big way, and now I think my model-buying is done for the year! You have to order enough stuff to get the free shipping, right? Wink [;)] I think my credit card has gone and melted itself......

I guess one good trade-off of being "away on business" for the better part of half the year is that I haven't bought any kits (or sadly, gotten to work on any either) but when I get home, I can go ahead and splurge on a couple without too much flak from my understanding wife.  I think I see a couple of helo kits in my future.  I'm trying to hold myself to only two or three kits this year, due to the stash not getting reduced, so I've already allocated most of the slots to the -53 and a -47.

I guess I need to save a little of the "overtime" money for one of those "bad boys"!  Then there is the 1/48th Chinook too!  Of course another CH-46.  Going to be the "Year of the Helicopter" looks like!

Clear Left!
