Alby's AH-1F Cobra (1/72 Hasegawa kit)
Posted by albymoore on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 9:45 PM

Cheers Gang,

Thought I would drop and share some pics of my latest build, a Hasegawa AH-1S Cobra, which was converted to an 'F'. I added several bits to the cockpit such as HSS rails, all flight controls, circut breaker panel, ECU hoses and seat belts, and a few boxes to the rear bulkhead. Exterior mods include brass rod skid cross tubes, landing light, photo-etched IR Jammer, brass rod tail skid, photo-etched cable cutters w/ bracing, and fine wire for the TOW launchers (which were changed to a two-cell configuation). The FFAR pod ends were drilled out and finished in a slighty darker color for variation. The model was painted with Model Master Acryl Helo Drab, the decals came from the kit except for the crossed saber marking on the engine cover. All comments and critiques welcomed, thanks for looking!

Cheers,

Alby

Sharp looking snake, with a great amount of detail for such a small scale.  Simply just impressive work to look at.  I hope I can make my 1/48 and 1/35 Cobras look near as nice as this one.

Well. . .I think I took a better picture of it Albert!
But you did take more, and post them so you win.
And don't let him fool you guys, every build of his is top notch. . .even his box stock.
(Sorry, had to put that in Albert)

Don

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

Don,

LMAO Laugh [(-D]

Thanks for the kudos and comments everybody, I really appreciate it. I built another Hasegawa Cobra a few years ago and was never really thrilled with it due to being lazy during the build-up and not adding anything. So for this one, out came the sheet styrene and rod, brass rod, wire, and other bits of stuff which was crammed onto/into the model. Thanks again!

Cheers,

Alby

Unknownpharoah,

That's the instrument panel decal that comes with the kit. I used some slightly thinned enamels for color and drops of Future for gauge lenses. I got the idea from one of the guys over at ARC who built the kit (he did a gorgeous JGSDF Cobra-http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v15/cyprus/AH-1S001.jpg , http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v15/cyprus/AH-1S004.jpg ).

Thanks again for the compliments everybody, glad y'all like the Cobra!

Thanks Mark!

The item number for the Acryl Helo Drab is #4723. It is quite a bit darker than it's enamel counterpart (which I used for a hi-lighting color after applying the base coat). Thanks again!

Alby

Wow. I've just started a 1/72 Sea Cobra and my eye perscription has gone up 10 fold already. My hat comes off to you for such detail at such a small scale. All I can say is well done mate.

Alby, saw your Bell over on ARC, again another great build, wish my eyes and figures could work that well, but my age is catching up with me and can't work those small scales as well these days

Sweet job, especially the cockpit details like the guages and the intercom wiring.  What did you put on the IR Suppressor, Bare Metal Foil?  Looks good.

Hi MBT,

Thank you for the kudos. The IR Jammer was polished with a three-way polishing stick after I folded into shape. After buffing it out, a light coat of Tamiya Clear Yellow was applied.

Thanks again for the compliments.

Cheers,

Alby
