Testors OD from the spray can looks the closest to me.  I used it on my UH-1H Dust-Off recently.  Here is how it turned out.

The Krylon Camouflage Ultra-Flat Olive Drab looks too dark to me.  It is closer to modern Helo Drab Green as seen on current US Army helicopters.

I haven't tried it yet, but there was mention recently on this forum about Krylon Camouflage Ultra-Flat Olive Drab in 12oz spray can. It was stated this was a very good color match for Nam era helicopters. Pete Brown

Hi Mark,

Nam Hooks were generally a lighter OD (never heard of a dark one in nam), with lots of smudge weathering.

Take care,

Frank

Mark,

Here is a list of different ODs from various paint manufacturers (courtesy of the color chart from the IPMS Stockholm site). I have always used MM Olive Drab, so I can't comment on the other paints. http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_fs.htm

FS Code Color Name Tamiya Xtracolor Polly S Gunze Sangyo Model Master

FS:34087 Olive Drab T:XF-62? X:X111 P:832/808/819 GS:H304 T/MM:1711

Needing a good olive drab for Nam era Hook!!

Hi gang!!

I need a lil  help!!   I'm looking for a good olive drab to paint my Hook as in the Nam era.  Testers Helo drab looks to be to dark and there olive drab looks a bit to light. What to do??    I was thinking of adding a little black to testors olive drab to darken it a bit.   Is there any olive drab out there in darker shades I can buy??
