UH-1H and M at Pima

The UH-1C "430" was in our Unit in Vietnam in 66-67.  One of the first Sharks.  The picture was just added to our web site with 3 other "survivors" that are in Museums or "restored" to a degree.  Some more good detail shots of the area around the transmission. Check out www.174ahc.org  New and updated items.  Sadly "911" was in New Orleans at Jackson Barracks located in the lower 9th Ward.  I still haven't found out it's current disposition but after being under 8 to 10 ft of water, Katrina did what a tour in Vietnam couldn't I'm sure.

Man, the stories those two old helicopters could tell!

#430 being with the Sharks, you know she has felt the heat... now a mute testiment to ALL the boys who lived & died with them!

 Personally I think these two have been overweathered. But seriously, I hope these can be restored to a better condition.
 But you gotta admit, they still stand proud and a little worse for the wear just like the rest of us vets. These Hueys are still beautiful.

m60a3, overweathered yes, best I can figure the M has beem siting in the Arizona sun at Pima for at least 10 years.

Hadn't rained in 4 monthes in Arizona and the weekend before and last weekend it did. Still enjoyed myself has did my son and three grandkids. My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter got excited when she saw all the aircraft and she walked most of it with me.

To the "civilian" it is just another helicopter, to the Vets that flew on the type and to the even fewer that flew and crewed those choppers the sight and touch of them brings back unforgetable memories.  I remember Tom Smith a CE on "911" touching the patches over the bullet holes just inches from were he had been sitting some 35 years before.  A humbling moment, knowing he had cheated death so long ago and was revisiting his past, good and bad.
