For 49 million pounds, you could buy TWO brand new AH-64Ds straight from the factory with fuel and ammo.  This guy's nuts.  I'm a little concerned about his willingness to sell it to the highest bidder.  Even though it is a British bird, there are still some transfer of technology issues there.  As a future -64 guy (and I'm sure the current -64 guys on the board will back me up) it just raised a few too many questions.  Somethin ain't right here.

I think it was a joke, especially once you look at the seller's replies to some of the Q&A questions.  Pretty rare for a private individual to own that modern of a piece of hardware, even if it was damaged.   Don't think he coul dlegally sell it on eBay either.  Doesn't sound like it was too badly damaged to not be repaired and still used as well.  Yup, something's fishy smelling there.

Doesn't matter.  The military doesn't just deMil and sell something that new nor expensive.  We use the hell out of something till it is pretty much worn out.  If it is able to be repaired, it is.  There are also laws gainst selling technology on the open market.  Recently, there wes an case in New Zealand where the US Government blocked NZ from selling a bunch of M113A2s on the open market.  Thay had been given (officially, loaned) to them by the US.  The US claimed that the M113A2s were still vital technology and could not be sold on the open market.  NZ ended up putting them in long term storage and may use them for an artifical reef.

You cant even buy Ah-1's anymore that are over 30+  years old. The government has a serious issue with civilians owning high performance gunships. I'm pretty sure you will never be able to buy an Apache any time in the distant future.

haha. I did see a recent episode of "TOP GEAR" on Discovery and they had a British Apache attempt to lock on and destroy(no weapons of course) a Lotus Eglise on a road track. The bird couldnt do it while staying within the confines of the track. It was interesting. Once the space limitations were removed the pilot moved back I think 2Km and had no issue locking on and finishing off the Lotus.

I was all set to bid.... what with all the disposable income I have from my Army Medical Pension and he pulled the auction. Here I was thinking how great it would be to get out of gridlock on my way to and from Toronto and he yanks the auction. Now what can I do to calm my roadrage? If anyone sees a Mini-Gun or even a simple Vulcan system let me know. I just bought a new car and it needs a hood ornament.

Cheers;

Gregory
