SA365N Dauphin - Virgin G-HEMS

Alright!  Very nice interior for a 1/72.  I wish my 1/72 S-76 had interior detail like that.  Just by looking at your Dauphin tells me the S-76 was really off in scale. I don't think I'll try another 1/72 kit.  Too small for my big hands.  I just don't know how you guys do it. 

It's too bad Virgin G-HEMS replaced their Dauphin with an MD-900. 
 I look forward to seeing your finished product!  It's good to see more civilian EMS builders out there!!

Yah, it's been a while.  Been trying to work around good weather to put primer coats and final coats down.  Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to put the final coats on the my Med Flight BK-117 and EC-135.  Getting ready to have some custom decals printed off.  Just neeed to tighten up the artwork and send them off for review and print.

The S-76 in a long, drawn out project.  I have the base white and blue down and was working on the gold striping last night.  I'm making it as Angel One from Arkansas Childrens Hospital in Little Rock.  I'll see if I can shoot some updates over the weekend.    Overall,  I have three kits just about finished.......Finally.
I don't think I'll ever want to tackle another 1/72 ever again.  I'm going to stick with 1/32 and 1/48. 
I only made an exception with the S-76 because it's my primary, favorite helicopter and it was a rare find. 

I did manage to make some mold for making my own resin parts.  I have a 1/32 nightsun, 1/48 350 Astar and Bell 222 EMS interior conversion, EC-135 tail fin, and some 1/32 EMS interior accesories.  Will also be making some vacuumformed 1/32 external oxygen tanks (Used with the BO-105, EC-135, BK-117 and EC-145)  and BK-117 radar noses.

I have marked the small additions to the helicopter made of bits of styrene and copper wire.


I'd wish to see a decent kit of S-76 myself, either in 72 or 48 scale...

Wow!  You sure got it going on for the detailing.  I never thought of working with copper wire before  I use the round styrene [0.02"] (0.5mm) for antennas and whatever I can get away with shaping without difficulty.

I say 1/48 AND 1/32 for an S-76!!!!!

Here's what the kit looks like unassembled.  Sorry the dig I had at the time wasn't all that great.
But, as you can see, it's not as nice as the Dauphin.

If I'd get my hands on S-76 kit, I'd built it in the colours of the helicopter that brough rock band Queen from London center to Knebworth park, which was the last Queen concert.

I don't have an access to various styrene rods available in other countries and I'm too lazy to make stretch-sprue aerials and I rather used wire instead...
Well I'm off to put primer on my birdie... Expect pics in a few hours...

@AirMedical: I also build a lot of 1:3X helos. I've got two 117's waiting in line, three 135 and two 145, plus more huge rotarywings. Did you ever think about making those bubble side windows for 135? On the new revell EC145 the windows are perfect, but on 135 the are just plain level... would be a huge improvement to the model.

BTW: Love your work on 117 and 135!

Thank you for your kind words.  I just posted 3 updated photos of my third BK-117 with the dry fit of a radar nose and a vac-formed piece.  They are both my first two prototypes.  I'm having to shape it to pin point the best fitting profile and from there, will help me make a second (revised) vacuum mold.  Once I make a perfected master, I'll make duplicates off that to be able to vac more than one nose.  I think I'll be able to do anywhere from 4-8 at one time along with the external oxygen profiles.  I have some more playing to do. 

I also added 3 updated S-76 pics showing the decal work and where I'm at in the build.  Just scroll toward the bottom.

What versions are you planning to do with your BK's and EC's?  Hope to see some of your work posted on here. Hint-hint-elbow-elbow.

Haven't obtained the EC-145 kit yet.  Maybe later this summer.  Not familiar with the windows other than the fit on the 135.  But more than likely, I wouldn't want to mess with making windows.  Not to mention I haven't been able to find a decent supplier that carries clear styrene sheets at a reasonable cost.  I've only been able to find white styrene sheets at a reasonable cost.  WAY cheaper than Evergreen.  I buy the Evergreen for the other profiles.  Rod's and such.  Good stuff!!!
