Posted by Anonymous on Friday, June 23, 2006 9:28 PM

Hi all,

I'm doing the rounds of helicopter only  sites to see if anyone has good walkaround style shots of the Commanche, especially cockpit, rotors, weapons/undercarriage bays etc,I have a couple of the 48th scale kits to do a "what if" bird that had entered service.Any help appreciated.

Firstly Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums. And to answer your question I've got two but I don't know how much help they will be. You could also try a google search like 'RAH-66 Commanche Walkaround'.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the heads up, some of these pics I haven't seen before so I'll add them to the colection.Hopefully we'll get a book or something in the future concerning this unique bird.

thanks, btw, for serving for our country!

 also try airliners.net

(although they are jets and airliners, they both have decent pictures from hundreds of photographers)

I believe one of the prototypes has returned here to Mother Rucker.  Once I've got some free time after April 15th, I'm gonna see if I can get into the museum's storage facility and take some pics of it.  A great deal of the documentation from the program is in the museum's archives (I've gone through most of it)

If I can get in, I'll post whatever pics I can!

for a real "what if" sheme you could break current standard and go digital camo. I have a couple of pics at work of an F18 in overall digital camo. Very interesting!  That would be a LOT of masking squares, luckily Gatorsmask can make you anything you want in a vinyl mask sheet, just give him artwork or tell him you want a particluar shape, etc.   I have several masking sheets from him.

It's spelled Comanche, and I have a number of digital photos.  I was the Army Test Engineer for Comanche flight test.  E-mail me at hollenbaugh@mindspring.com and we'll talk about what you need.  If you search RAH-66 Comanche on this forum, you'll find a general description of the configurations of the test and production aircraft that I posted last year.

As for Ft. Rucker, you are correct.  Prototype aircraft 2 (95-0001) was returned there last month for display.  I hope it's back in the main building, where we put it when it was first delivered there.  One note - that aircraft may still carry the tail number of the other prototype (94-0327).  We swapped vertical tails to give the Rucker display aircraft the final configuration, and I don't think the museum ever repainted the tail number.
