From this weekend...

The HCS-5 H-60 was the bomb. Can't... resist....... Must... make... model. If any HCS-5 guys come on here... Thanks for bringing it down.

The full collection of shots for these will probably be put on a new CD eventually.

Was that a Pave Hawk with the original tail and exhaust? It's kinda like looking at a Betamax "They still make those?"

Grant,

Wierd innit? A couple of us were wondering what the deal was with that Pave Hawk over on ARC as well. I thought it was a reserve or test bird, but Dave said it is apart of the 58th SOW (serial number 82-23708).

Cheers,

Alby

Another little oddity was the racks holding all the dispenser cans were green. First time I've seen that. They might have taken them off an old green camo.

Yup, I saw the topic over there this morning (don't ask why it took me so long to see it there) and I did a triple take when I saw the pic. I had no idea any of the original Credible Hawks were still around, that's gotta make them what, about 22 - 23 years old now?

Dave
Yeah, I think I've seen green chaff/flare boxes on gray machines before. I'm sure that's what was done, borrowing them from green machines.

thanks man, i'm in HCS-5 i couldn't make it down to the show.  i'm an ordnanceman and i was one of the guys that loaded the hellfire and configured the aircraft for the show.  we are one of only two navy helo squadrons that use the GAU-17 minigun.  if you have any questions feel free to ask.   by the way A/C 306 was deployed to iraq for over a year straight without any major problems.

Hell, pretty much all of our bird's flare/chaff bucket mounts are still green.  And all of our birds have been grey for quite a while now.

Oh, and the 58th has always had the oldest birds in the fleet but that doesn't always mean that they had/have more hours on them.  It was/is the same deal with their -53's and -130's.  Their TH-53's even had the sponson supports to reinforce airframe integrity.

Nice job... The Apache got most of the attention, of course... but I thought yours was the best looking one there. They mentioned something about fog down there, so we weren't sure they would show. The Pendleton guys haven't come the last few years for some reason.

I'm sure you mentioned it before, but what's the future for the unit? I know they've been threatening to decom them for a while now.

HCS-5 will be decommisioned at the end of this year leaving HCS-4 on the east coast.  most people are pretty upset since we did a great job out in the sand box.  this has been the best duty station i've had, active or reserve.  you can get info on our unit on the global security network.  we used to do the Miramar Airshow every year but with our commitment in iraq it was hard to provide aircraft.  this airshow i think is the last time one our aircraft will be seen away from North Island, except for local ops.  i'm glad you enjoyed the bird i'll pass along your compliments.

Hey-

If you like 1/48 scale, the Italeri SH-60 with the Cobra Company HH-60H conversion set makes a great looking HH-60H, with a little work.  Here's mine (with thanks again to Firehawk Ordie who was very helpful in answering questions and offering pictures!):

Very nice model... That looks like the way to go. I guess the DAP kit would have to be used for 1/35, which would take a lot more work then I probably have time for.

You know, it seems like they always want to get rid of the units that work the hardest. They've been trying to get rid of VMFA-134 for a while now, and those guys are helping out all the time.
