uh-60 tinnin...any pics???
Posted by richgb on Thursday, June 29, 2006 4:04 AM

Hi fellas,

My next project in the pipeline is a 1/72 scale uh-60 from Desert Storm. I've a few pics of a helo called "Tinnin" which has a counter just behind the pilot door of the number of Iraqi POW it carried. It has a really weathered look with quite a lot of the helo drab (?) showing through the sand camo. Unfortunately I can only find a pic from the right hand side and wondered if there were any good walkaround shots of this or at least some from different perspectives. Any help will be appreciated. I've got both Squadron/signal blackhawk books which is where I first saw it.

Thanks in advance

Hi Robert,

Thanks mate. I'll use this as a template. It's an excellent build and could be the real thing. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the plug, that one's mine. :-)

I built it using what I remember from looking at the paint jobs comign back from Iraq, and knowing how hings get done in the field....so.......putting that togther I conjectured what the left side most likely looked like.  It's not accurate and I don't claim it to be correct, but it's certainly possible. I just wish I didn't have to repaint the nose  after dropping it on the floor and busting the windshield outta it the night beforethe Silicon Valley Kickoff Classic!! GRrrrrrrr

Thanks for posting those pics. It's a great model. Out of interest how did you get on in the Silicon Valley Classic? It must have won first, surely? Did you ever get round to building that base for it? I was going to try and get in touch and ask where you got your references from but you've answered that in your post.

Thanks for replying. Cheers,

Rich

Hi Rich

actually i could not place it since the windshield was shattered. It was the night bfore the contest and I had to saw the old one out once I fianlly got one several months later from Acadamy.  It has held its own, but Helicopter catagory is usually pretty thin, and IPMS rules exist only to pick apart flaws, not look at anything else ( I know, Im a judge) and with the flaws it has (its a big model, more flaws :-) ) it holds it own usually against other, smaller, easier to build (grunt grunt hasegasomthienorothershakenbakekit) kits.

Anyway I never have built a base for it. Right now most of my models are living in small plastic cases to stay out of the dust and a few (like the blackhawk) are on a double row of shelves in my war room.  Im not much into bases these days, other than portable bases that can be removed and stored.

thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it! It still turns heads when I show it!
