More Apache pics
Posted by Cobrahistorian on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 1:00 AM

Hey all,

Well, I couldn't have picked a better time to be sick at home.  Studying and doing a bit of modeling before starting the Apache course next Tuesday.  I got a new digital camera today, so pictures abound!  Here are some shots of my current production line.  You saw the A model from the 151st already, but in order, we have 01-5246 from C/3-3rd Avn, the current incarnation of "Blue Max" (Snakedriver and Glider, that one's for you guys!), a Block III AH-64D that will be fielded by 2011 and lastly a British Apache AH.1 (complete with HIDAS sensors)

The first and second are Hasegawa kits, while the third is the Revell Germany.  The first one, (the Blue Max bird) also has the Aires cockpit set (which is where I got the leftover Hasegawa pit from) which is well worth the investment! The only thing I scratchbuilt on this one is the GPS antenna on the spine (that little white spot).

The Block III bird is taking quite a bit of work.  I'm disappointed that you can't see the detail in the cockpit and elsewhere (scratchbuilt TEDAS sight in place of the old optic TADS sight in the front seat, new RWRs ahead of the canopy on both sides, drooped rotor tips ala Comanche, and a few other tidbits)

I used the Hasegawa cockpit and radar on the RoG kit, just because I had them and they were better than the ones that came with the kit.  This kit has some strong points, particularly the HIDAS sensors, but overall, the fit was just godawful.

I'm hoping to finish the first one and the Alpha this week if I make some more progress with Chapters 5&9.  For every three aircraft limits I memorize, I get an hour of building!

Makin progress on 01-5246.  Hand painted the sharkmouth, eye and the base for the Blue Max insignia.  I need to get some royal blue and a really fine brush to finish the Blue Maxes.  They're pretty rough now, but once I go back into them, the detail should look pretty impressive.  I'm having a lot of fun with this build, even though its taken me forever to do.

By the way, I started the Longbow course today.  10 hours of class, but man is it worth it!

I think I was paying more attention to the Cobra in the background of the first pics than the Apaches Jon. Is that the 1/35th you were working on?

Nope, that's the Monogram 1:48th kit.  If you look in the far background, though. Right behind the can of propel, you can see the 1:32 AH-1F conversion I'm doing.
