FYI: 1/72 S-76 kit on Ebay
Posted by AirMedical on Friday, October 6, 2006 9:10 AM
If anyone is interested, there's a 1/72 HKCW S-76 kit, same as mine, on ebay.
The price is already gouged.

Cheers,

I've been watching it since it went up. I hate getting into sniper territory, but I may have to. I'd like to get it.

John, did you get my PM?

Hey!

Yah, I did.  I replied back.  I take it you never got the reply?

 It's actually an S-76A+.  I converted mine to a C.

I will warn you about the kit.  It's not quite 1/72, the interior is horrible, the main blades are over sized, the windows are oversized and will require sanding down, VERY brittle, it will shater,  lots of patching and repairing, deep panel lines, assembly is....welll, a nightmare.  I haven't even had the nerve to finish mine yet.  It's still set off to the side for the time being.  Haven't gotten the nerve yet.
I'll drop you another email.
Regards,
John

Dennis,

Dropped you a direct reply to your email.  Let me know if you got it.
I see the kit is already up to $39 w/ shipping.  Oh brother!  They haven't got a clue what they're getting into.  LOL!  The seller is gouging on the shipping big time too!

Cheers,
John

Hi John, I got your e-mail. I didn't now you were a fellow Buckeye. I grew up in Brewster, OH about 6 miles SW of Massillon in the SW corner of Stark County.

I think I'll take a pass on the ebay bird. If it's not accurate, I'd rather buy supplies with the money saved and try my hand at scratchbuilding an S-76 instead.

Did you ever see the show Adventures in Scale Modeling on PBS years ago? They did the Allegheny General Hospital Medical Chopper on one episode. The apartment building I lived in was right across from the hospital and I saw it land and take off more times than I can remember. I taped the show, I'll have to see if I can still find it buried in a box in the attic. I was never very good about labeling the tapes, though.

No way!  I've passed through there a few times in my day.  That's funny.  Nice semi-rural area at the time.  Now everything is all built up down there.  Sad!
No, never caught that.  I would have love to see that.  Was it when they had the BK-117's or the MD-900s?
Allegheny General is getting new helicopters starting the new year. All new EC-145's!  Dropping the MD-900's and S-76A.
I got to see one of there BK's back in the mid 90's fly into the Cleveland Clinic.   He was picking up the flight crew after waiting over at Burke Lakefront Airport.  They used to have a little ground pad and could only handle one helicopter at a time.  Now they have a four or five place rofftop pad amongst it new Metropolis it's built over the years.

I'm going to try and get in touch with some helo guys and I know and see if I can get you and I some S-76 detailed info.  The stuff I have stiff isn't enough.  I need numbers!

Cheers,
John

BK-117's. I want to say it had a Pegusus logo on it. I thought I had that episode recorded, but so far all I can find is the episode where they built the Starship Enterprise. Nuts!

BTW, older VCR tapes feel much heavier and solid than today's VCR tapes. I wonder why?

The other stuff you found is pretty good reference. Looks like the PDF's, but with more detail. I guess the model is also a Micro-West?

No, that's the model from the late Dr. Roberts and the late retired fella from Sikorsky I told you about.  That was one of the models they vac-formed and made.  MicroWest does nothing that nice.  Theirs is all solid cast from PU and painted no different than the wood models.  All the old plastic display models are long gone along with the companies that made them.  One of the last surviving companies in my hometown just finally had to close its doors this year.  The owner said everyone is wanting the wood models from China.  He just can't compete with them.   The only comapnies I know that do the plastic models are out of Italy and Sweeden.

I remember the Pegasus when it first came out.  I never got one one.  I was always missing out.  Pegasus started with the BK, then the Bell 412, then the Bell 230 and now the A-109 Power.  I actually have a coloered scan of the old Pegasus decals for reference.  Never got around to making any.

Kind regards,
John

Very interesting stuff, John. I see the wood models all the time on ebay. Are they the same ones and are they really that popular that they can put U.S. companies out of business? Yikes!!!

I wanted to pick up that Bk as well, but never saw it anywhere. I'm a day late and a dollar short. That's my motto. ;)

LOL!  There's another S-76 kit on ebay.   I bet they're laughing all the way to the bank.

The $145 does not surprise me.
I just got word the AMT 222/Airwolf kit is being re-released for aound $20 USD from Hobby Japan I think they're called (?).

All I can say is I was "blessed" with two 222 kits this past month after years of searching.  One I paid $8 and the other was a "gift" from an "All American, generous, kind hearted, gentleman".
I won't mention their name because I know how critical people can be when someone does something nice and others look at the almighty dollar.  There are good people out there!
"God loves a generous giver."

That's why I love this forum.  Lots of good people here!
Cheers,

$145.00 for the 1/72nd Airwolf!?!? I love Airwolf, but $145.00 worth???? No, I don't think I love it that much.

Is it even a licensed kit? I've never seen it before.

I saw that auction and it was already too pricey. I had no idea it would go for that much. Maybe if it was in 1/32nd or 1/35th scale.

Maybe.
