Secret Santa GB proposal
Posted by Avus on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 2:35 AM

Hi guys,

jwb over in the aircraft section had this nice idea a "Secret Santa GB". This is the "how it works" copied from the thread in the GB section:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First, post your interest in this forum, and I'll list all participants in this first post. Deadline for getting in on the GB is October 31st.

Once all the participants are confirmed, I'll ask everyone for their mailing address and email address. I'll compile a list of everyone, then randomly go through and assign each person a "Santa". I'll notify each Santa who their recipient is. I'll set it up so that whoever your recipient is NOT your Santa.

Each Santa will then grab a kit out of their stash, or buy one. Please do not feel obligated to spend more than $20-$25 maximum. This is not about buying the most expensive kit- it's about sharing in the season, the fun, and the friendship. And if you've signed up and find that life has come at you a little too fast- let me know. I don't want anyone to feel excluded because of money.

I certainly don't want to exclude other modeling genres, but to keep it manageable, this GB will stick to 1/48 scale injection molded WWII aircraft, just so folks participating will be on familiar ground when picking out a gift. (It would be cool if other "Secret Santa" GB's crept up for other genres!)

Once you've picked out the kit you'll send as a gift to the recipient, you'll need to wrap it up in wrapping paper, and it would be nice to include a card. Part of the fun of this GB will be getting to know other forum members.

Once you've wrapped it up- mail it off! Obviously, the recipient will know who the sender is. But to keep thigs fun, let's not acknowledge who the senders or recipients are until Christmas.

Target date to have the package mailed to your recipient is November 30th.

Now, we'll all have a nice kit, wrapped up and waiting under the tree.

Starting at 12:01 AM UMT December 25th, folks can begin opening their kits and posting what it is, and who it's from. Pics would be fun! (Folks who open presents before 12:01 AM UMT- it's OK if you cheat and open it a bit sooner. But wait till that time to post!
Wink [;)]

Once you've opened your gift from your Secret Santa- let the GB begin.

The rules for the actual build are simple. Build it between Dec 25th, 2006 and June 30th, 2007. Post pics of progress and on completion. AM, resin, P/E are fine- have fun with your gift!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Converting this idea to helos I'd say any helo in 1/72 or 1/48 scale; max  $20-$25; deadline to join Nov 20th.

What do you think?

I really like this idea. Could we keep secret santas to our own country so you're not sending stuff off to Austrailia from the UK etc, plus there will be less chance for ir to get lost. !/72 helicopters would be good plus there would be more of a range to choose from.

Sounds great!, however, what happens with those of us that would spend Xmass overseas?

I have no problem sending something stateside. Maybe I can provide the address of a relative,  they are going to send some treats to me anyways.

This is going to be a great alternative to having yet another tie or shirt from SWMBO :D.

Sounds neat fellas.... I was wondering if I could get on this gravy. I am stationed in germany, however, it won't cost anymore to ship here than it would in the states (APO). Goodtimes.....        JOSH

Nice to have some feedback.
As Jon (jwb) said the more we are the more fun it is; so I suggest we should at least gather like ten people before we consider this a group build.

I'll keep track of those interested in the first post by listing their nicks.
Let me stress this: it is only a list of interested people nothing definitive.

In the other GB we figured you could order something on a US (or what ever foreign country) On-Line store. You pay and get it sent to your recipient.

Agree, so shall it be!

Your alternative is a good one. But you're supposed to get the parcel before X-Mas; so you might bring it along to where ever you go.

Buying from an overseas online shop and sending it to a recipient in that country is a great idea. I would never have thought of that. World-wide it is then.

Four people is a little little Smile [:)] for this build.

So unless we gather at least another four by Nov 1st. I'd say we drop the whole thing. Sorry!

That's a great shame as I thought it would attract a little more inerest. Thanks for posting it anyway.
