                        I'd like to see the AH-64A/D done right in 1:35th scale. Or at least a detail set fo the IMAX kit, but would prefer a correct kit of this helo. I can't wait or Panda's 1:35th Chinook kits to come! Especially the MH-47E SOA helo.

                        But I do prefer 1:48th scale more than 1:35th.

                        Yeah, I'm looking at Gunslingers now. Good stuff. I've got the manuals for the Cobra, but not for the Loach. Gotta hunt them down. I'm doing a C/1/9 bird and I've gotten a few good reference shots from some of C troop's pilots. The shape of the kit is correct overall, just has a lot of detail issues.... but then again, that's why we do this, right?

                        Ahhh... too bad, CH; we all get burned sooner or later. If you can find the 1:35 scale DML OH-6A, it's good enough to use as a reference itself. Let me know if you need any info, as I do have the pilot's manual. I WISH I had the maintenance manual, but I only have them for the AH-1S and the UH-1D/H.

                        You can actually glean a lot of information from Gunslingers WRT that Loach cockpit.

                        Well, I got my Hobbycraft 1/32 OH-6...
                        YUK!!
                        Its not irredeemable, but lots of plastic blobs instead of detail. I've already cut the doors off and removed ALL of the flash (Sinkholes, flash, etc...). The fuselage looks like it'll go together ok now. Gonna have quite the scratchbuilding job on the interior. This is gonna be a challenge!

                        I still have the Hawk F-84G and an O-2, both chrome and new-in-the-box (1:48 scale)... I had plans for the F-84 until Monogram and Tamiya came out with better ones. I did actually build one, long ago. It must be around here someplace... another Hawk kit that I have squirrelled away is the 1:32 Kaman Huskie, although it's not chrome (thank God!). It has been re-released under the Testors moniker at least twice, IIRC.

                        That Nichimo kit was purchased back in the late ' 70's, and I haven't seen it around since. YEAH, it's big. It had the option of either a detailed engine or a powered rotor coupled to a non-scale tail rotor gearbox; the kit included the parts for both. If I get the chance I'll dig the kit out tomorrow and fire up the trusty digital. Maybe I can get some images on here for all to see.

                        The 1:20 scale Nichimo kit had the complete engine, almost a separate kit in itself... here's a page from their coloring guide:



                        Be advised: this kit is of the civilian Hughes 500, as witnessed by the civvie control panel. SOMEDAY I'll convert mine to OH-6A specs. I must have bought that kit back in the late ' 70's, when Hawk kits were still plentiful. Anyone remember their series of chromed "bare metal" kits?

                        I have a set of the Delta Force Somalia Figures. Gotta get more. I have the modern blah blah blah figures, too. Alot of them don't have the detail I need, like the goggles on their helmets. Wait'll you see this thing, though. Picture a 3x8 door (shelaqued, caulked, etc.) with walls 4 inches high. plenty of sand so the elevation in different spots is correct. Then I have the Target building in upper left, Durant crash site (being overrun) in lower left, The convoy moving through the streets left center to center to bottom center (it should look like they're heading to NEITHER crash site), Then Wolcott crash site and ending positions for the trrops spread out in an upside down L from top right to bottom right. Some people say try not to fit too much in one diorama, but the whole issue with that scene was that there was SO MUCH going on at once. Itneeds to make the viewer feel overwhelmed. Any ideas anyone???

                        Thanks! I've got the "Gunslingers" book. I actually bought one of the original profiles on the back cover from Lou Drendel a few months ago. I don't have the kit yet, should be here within the next few days, just in time to celebrate finishing the damn book! I haven't decided on a paint scheme yet, but it'll be from C/1/9

                        Jon... I'm not familiar with that kit; the only 1:32 Loach kit I have is the OOOOLD Revell kit, which has been re-issued. There are a few more recent 1:35 kits... can't remember the manufacturer and too lazy to go check my stash. How is it? Separate doors?

                        A good reference book is that old Squadron "Gunslingers In-Action," and you should also look for Aero series #38.

                        I have the pilot's manual should you need any scans.

                        I just got the Hobbycraft 1/32 OH-6A. Anyone here built it before? Are there any aftermarket kits for it? Obviously the Eduard set is 1/35 and isn't gonna fit. Anyone got any thoughts on it? I've got enough external reference shots, anyone got any interior sources?

                        Have you seen the DML 1/35th Delta figures?? THey're pretty good from what I remember. I built the set when it first came out in the mid 90s. Try ebay for the OH/MH/AH-6 kits. I just got a 32nd scale OH-6 for $11 there. I think someone just came out with resin modern helicopter crew figures too.

                        Hello ppicket. Sorry it took me a while to notice your question for me.

                        The "N" model blade is totally different from the D & H blade. Yes, there is an additional 2" strip added along the trailing edge of ALL N blades. This adds lifting power. Notice that the tip is also "thinned" in thickness, not fat like the D & H. This makes for a much quieter flying blade. The Panda depiction is pretty good....for an N blade, not for a D.

                        Super topic. I ampresently working on a 3' X 8' Sandtable diorama of the Mogadishu incident. I just bought my third Academy UH-60L Helicopter. They go together pretty well. Here's my problem: I need to find 2 models of the AH-6 Little Bird helicopter (one to cover crash site 1 and one to land on the road, etc. Oh, then I need one to land Delta on the Target house. Does anyone know where I can find that model? I've checked everywhere. The one I've seen on the web is Dragon #3527, but others might do if they're 1/35 scale. Help!
                        I have a lot of the other stuff I need: 38 figures (modern day, which is hard to find a good assortment), 2 of 6 HMMV's, 2 of 3 flatbed trucks, and of course Super 6-1, 6-4, and the CSAR bird.

                        I'm a former 'H' model Medevac crew chief and I've never seen Huey rotor blades with a variable cord such as is included in the Panda kit (and Italeri 1/48th kit, from which it came). The blades are wider for the majority of the length than they are at the blade grips. Is this accurate for some N models?

                        The Revell 47 kit is in 1/35 scale..Their older Huey and Cobra kits are 1/32.

                        I heard rumors that Panda might be coming out with a 1/35 UH-1N....I certainly hope so. I have their "D" model....and they just "happen" to have given the "D" an "N" rotor head and blades...so it makes sense to now give us the "N" model airframe. As a former "N" driver....I'm excited to say the least. Any idea on when this might come out?

                        1/32 is a much better scale for helos!

                        Choppers are to small of a subject for 1/72 or 1/48th as it is!

                        1/35 is ok and works well for diromas BUT! 1/32 is the BEST!

                        Same goes for WWII fighters....TOO DANG SMALL for anything but 1/32!

                        Isn't the Revell H-13 in 32nd scale?
                        We need some continuity in this scale range! I mean the most decent Vietnam era Cobra is in 1/32. Until recently, the only available UH-1D/H was in 32nd scale. Everything seems to be going towards 35th and away from 32nd. SO WHY HAVEN"T WE SEEN A 1:35 SINGLE ENGINED COBRA YET?????

                        Both MRC and Revell have Bell H-13 chopper kits, MRC's is a treu Korean War machine, Revell's is the Bell 47-G. MRC also has a couple of UH1-C kits as well. Check your local hobby shop or mail order companies. Good luck!

                        If Tamiya or any other company is listening, here is an untapped market for a whole series of models...imagine a Russian MI-24 Hind, or an early UH-1HB or C model...a Korean war MASH helicopter would be lovely too...

                        Most Model Companies make choices due to size and cost....They want to produce a kit that people have asked for but want to keep the cost at a rate that will not scare them off....like Tamiya!...he he, Thats why you see alot of NO INTERIOR or NO thrills kits out there.

                        UPDATE!.....I just receievd two pics from Frank White of the Nam Chinook crew Guns a Go Go! and HE has two pics from MRC of 1/35 scale CHINOOK molds that were made a couple years ago ...but the project fell though....now I do remember talk of all that but forgot all about it........Maybe Panda bought those molds? AND! I can't even imagin why MRC dropped that idea!?! send me a e-mail and I will foward you the two pics....its faster than me posting them on my page plus I'm running out of room!

                        i'm building fevells "super puma bgs" in 1/32.
                        what pains me is there is a lot of degree of detailing to be done here,if you want to.
                        why dont the model companies put more into the internal details as there is a big "greenhouse",but sparse detail.tamiya can do it,why not the others.
                        ps living where i do,my best models are mail order from hannants(.co.uk)
                        try them for your afer market stuff & rare kits,
