Trumpeter Choppers

Have the Trumpeter 1/35 Mi-24v Hind E, nice kit.  Wonder if they will do more 1/35 modern choppers, 1/35 Apache would be nice or a Blackhawk or even a AH-1W.  Now that I have built the Hind, Academy kits just don't compare to the Trumpeter ones.

They do.  They have an MI-4, MI-8/17, CH-47A, and a CH-47D.  All are great, about the same quality as the Hind.  No word on any other future releases.  I still think the Academy (UH-60s, AH-1W, OH-58D, Bell-47, UH-1Cs, etc..) and Dragon (OH-6A, AH-6J, MD-500, etc..) kits are still great too.

Personaly I like MRC's quality  more then Trump's although its older kits... Currently building MRC's Huey (1994) and Trump's new Chinook(2005).... Honestly I am standing for Huey (not only becouse of rivets:-)).

Trumpeter team doing great thing making modern helos in 1/35. But accuracy still isn't their strongest side. I wont say anything about their Chinook (for now) but Mi-24 and Mi-8 are pritty far from being accurate.  Especially the last one.... Where are all the weapons - rocket pods and PKT's? Where is internal fuel tank? Cockpit sucks! Someday I will write an article about it.

I heared right now Trump is really busy to through out new Su-27UB and Su-30 in 1/32 scale. They finally started to make a research and consultate with real flanker specs. Lets hope they will keep that tradition in future with helos too.

Agree with bith my esteemed colleagues:

  • Trumpeter makes more 1/35 helos and 1/32 aircraft
  • They are not the most accurate ones
  • Academy's are way more accurate than Trumeter's
  • Academy makes a few Blackhawk variants and a AH-1W
  • Kangam/Imex makes an Apache but it is said that it sucks

Well I am no expert and I trust your opions and reviews.   I like to model and get things built and try not to get too caught up on everything being totaly accurate.  Let's keep in mind it is a model and a hobby to enjoy and we are not building replica's to display in a museum.  I have to add that as far as what you get in a kit the Trumpeter Hind is pretty good, Academy cockpits suck in my opinion, so then you have to buy resin/PE sets, well how much is the kit costing now to build.

It would be nice though if someone like Academy or Trumpeter put out a decent Apache in 1/35 scale.

Confused [%-)]Hmmm?  Your two above statements contradict each other.  If you don't care about accuracy, then why buy resin and PE sets to upgrade the cockpits????

If you don't care about accuracy, then why do you care which kits are better than others?  Why do you want a decent Apache in 1/35? Confused [%-)]

I guess we see modeling differently then, I think....I personally try to build an accurate replica.  I strive for museum quality.  The more accurate that I can build it the better.  Much of it can be done with good old scratch-building and hard work though.  Sheet styrene will go a long way.  You don't need to buy the PE and resin sets.

By the way, the 1/32 Revell Apache is a pretty good representation of an early A model.

Agree on resin sets, what you buy, you can mostly do by your self with styrene, but nothing beats PE for small detail. Agreed they are a pain in the @§§ but if you succeed in placing them correctly the result is outstanding.

I think there is differnce IMHO in improving parts of the model with resin/PE and then getting caught up on accuracy.....measurements, rivets, etc, this is what I was trying to say.  I also want to build the best looking model I can, but not a museum peice, don't have the time in life to dedicate that level of detail, corrections, scratch building.  I was referring to OOTB builds, IMO the Academy kits I have seen require updating the cockpits and trumpeter IMO is better in that regard.  So if you just want to buy a kit and not have to buy resin/PE Trumpeter would be a better choice for what you get in the box, and yes I know it cost much more.
