1/72 GERMAN HELOS
Posted by Deputy_Brad on Monday, January 8, 2007 10:15 PM

Does anyone know what kind of helicopters the modern BW uses? And does anyone know of kits in 1/72 scale? I was looking more for the transport type chopper like a Blackhawk, but anything is good.

Thanks

Revell and Airfix both do a 1/72 CH-53G in Heer markings, although I've no idea whether these a/c are still operational today. Revell also do a 1/72 german navy Sea King as well.

The Heeresflieger (Army Aviation) uses 3 main types. Heavy lift transport regiments are equipped with CH-53Gs which are esentially CH-53Ds. Other transport Regiments use the UH-1Ds ( built under licence by Dornier ?) while the anti-tank regiments use the Bo.105 although these are about to be replaced by Eurocopter Tigers.

The Bundesmarineflieger (Federal Navy Aviation) uses Westland Sea King Mk.41s and Westland Lynx

The Luftwaffe has staffels (squadrons) of UH-1Ds attached to its 3 C.160 Transall transport regiments and 3 AS.532 Super Pumsas/Cougars used for VIP transports.

The only kit of the Bo.105 came from Airfix while Revell Germany have announced a 1/72 Tiger kit to be released this year. Both the Sea King and Lynx are, or have been, available from Revell Germany. The AS.532 was available from Italeri

The new RoG Eurocoptre Tigre is already out here in Europe and its little beauty.

I believe one of Italeri's UH-1D kits comes with BW or Luftwaffe markings.

As for the Lynx, Both Airfix and RoG have 1/72 kits of them. The Airfix kit is a pain to put together and I think the RoG one is an old Matchbox kit.

I think I have seen one of Italeri's CH-53 kits with German markings, but I'm not completely sure.

And don't forget the NH90. The first two have just been delivered. Revell's 1:72 kit will be released (although it has been delayed for several times) in march.

 Good Luck!

Yes, the comemorative set of decals that come with the Italeri slick look very specail indeed and would make up in to an excellent and quite different model.
