Yep....HH-3E was the first Jolly Green Giant (C/S Jolly),

Then came the HH-53C Super Jolly Green Giant C/S Jolly),

And even today we're flying HH-60G Pavehawks using the callsign Jolly.  Of course that's a static C/S and we use other C/S when we're doing other types of stuff.

It'll be interesting to see if we'll still be using the C/S Jolly when (and if) we get the HH-47's.

i have a vid of jolly greens and skyraiders in action rescuing a downed pilot. miniguns and willy pete's a plenty . if your interested let me know.Pirate [oX)]
While the rest of the crew may be in the same predicament, it's almost always the pilot's job to arrive at the crash site first.

If you are going to build a couple of A-1's in 1/72, also, might I suggest the Hasegawa kit.  For the 'H' it is the only way to go.  If you are wanting to include an 'E', you only have one choice.  Revellogram.  I believe that they have re-issued it but, I'm not positive.

If you do go with the 'E' kit, you might want to think about adding Cobra Company's control surface and cockpit sets.

Actually I was thinking of one of each I love the Skyraider in all it's forms

Here are a few pictures of each.

First, the HH-3.....

Now, the SH-3......

As you can see, as Ed stated, you are in for a lot of conversion work!!!!!

If you're planning on converting a 1/48 SH-3 to an HH-3, you might want to reconsider.  You're looking at scratchbuilding the entire fuselage.  The SH-3 has basically a boat hull fuselage ending in a pointed aft fuselage while the HH-3 is different aft of the cockpit with a flatter underside ending up in a flat ramp area sloaping upward to the boom.  The SH-3 has sponsons attached to struts just aft of the cockpit and forward of the rotor head.  The HH-3 has sponsons (different shape roughly like an airfoil) located aft of the rotor head.  Entry doors and hoists are in different locations as well.   If you're planning on converting the Wessex variant of the SH-3, you'll encounter additional issues. Unless you're a real masochist, you might want to rethink this or build in 1/72 scale using the old Revell HH-3.

I've got some photos for comparison but, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get them posted to this forum. If someone could enlighten me, I'll send them along. Otherwise, contact me directly and I'll e-mail them.

The HH-3 helicopter was the <Jolly Green Giant>.  The HH-53 was the <Super Jolly Green Giant>.  When we worked with them on operations, they were always referred to as <Jollys> or <Jolly Greens> for the HH-3 and <Super Jollys> for the HH-53.  HTH.

HH-3 which is basically the same as the SH-3 Sea King. Not positive but I thought the HH-53 was the Super Jolly Green Giant, while the HH-3 was just the Jolly Green Giant.
