HH-3 Jolly Green
Posted by ChrisJPB on Sunday, January 14, 2007 6:50 AM

I am thinking of building the HH-3 out of the 1/72 Revell kit.  I would like to spice the kit up as it's a bit basic.  My idea so far is to get my hands on Eduard SH-3 photoetch set and a Fujimi SH-3 kit and add what I can to make a half way decent model of the USAF version.  Can anybody tell me anything about the pe or Fujimi kit or have built the Revell kit?

Thanks

Built the Revell kit years ago, very basic cockpit and no interior, need to scratch-build some exterior details also, may be able to get some of those parts from the PE and other kits

The Revell kit is pretty basic but it's the only game in town.  You'll have to scratch build the sloped debris deflector in front of the engine intakes, a rescue hoist, and the rigging and framework for sling loads on the helicopter's belly.

Thanks for the info.  I am still curious about the Fujimi SH-3 kit.  Would it be worth it to get some of the parts needed for an HH-3 (like the debris deflector in front of the intakes)?

Couldn't hurt as long as you don't have to pay a ton of money for it

I'm looking at the HH-3 and thinking that a conversion from an SH-3 is possible in 48th.  It'd take two kits, but I think its doable.  I'm really considering this, since I can use the second kit as the basis for my S-67/AH-3 (transmission and engine compartment, rotors, etc.)

I just shot a brief walkaround of the HH-3E at Hurlburt Field this past weekend.  Here's some pics.

Later,
