There is a decal sheet running around in 1/72nd scale it's the twin to the 1/48th scale sheet from Super Scale.  I have one around here somewhere, because I have both sheet!  I with the exception of the Sea Wolves UH-1C I've have little use for the rest of the sheet and no use for the 1/48th sheet at all. I just have to find out wher it's hidden it's self.   The Navy rescue was the first UH-1N I made with the new (now old) Fugimi kit.  Drop a line and we'll see what we can do.

Ms has #48-146  markings for: VH-1N rescue Nas Agana,Guam; Bell VH-1B, 1st Pltn; VH-1H 227 Aviation Battalion; VH-1B HAL-3 seawolves.

-the illustration for dec placement shows all acft as single eng-not dual pack

-Vh-1N rescue buno 158248 [directions call for overall glossy sea blue] most of the decs would work for you except for the NAVY/RESCUE/ABANDON CHUTE and fuselage step locators due printed 'white'.

The website I found certainly looks like they are still there but the most recent dated photos were from 1998. I hope they are, its certainly a useful resource since many of the areas it covers don't have helicopters capable of the missions it flys.

I admit your Google fu is stronger than mine, I tried several combinations but none quite as effective as Search & Rescue helicopters (which should have been obvious but I missed it).

Here's this for starters.

And, according to the latest information I could find, the SAR unit is still at Lemoore.  I am not positive but, according to a suit filed by the union representing civilian workers on base, they are still listed as being part of the base's mission.

Thanks, it doesn't look like anything particularly hard to do between a set of navy decals and some black lettering. Just thought it would be nice to be lazy and buy a set instead of printing my own.

Since there don't seem to be any decals, is there a good source for SAR ships? Maybe one of the UH-1 books or something that focuses on military SAR units?

That MH-60 sounds like a fun project, I just finished the little Revell HH-65 kit (and what a bunch of work that "quick" little build turned into) so now I have this urge to build more orange helicopters.

Lemoore isn't too far from me, I was thinking of trying to get on base for some photos but I heard the SAR unit was shut down or moved in 2002, so I'm not sure if they are around anymore. Guess I'll find out the next time the Yosemite ship is otherwise occupied and someone gets stuck on the side of a cliff.

Agreed! Im originally from Avenal just 22 miles down the road (thats where that 2 lane road at the overpass takes you) so I loved seeing those decals as well.

I dont think I have a set anymore but I will need them for NAS Whidbey for the MH60S Im getting read to start.

Sorry, I can't help but, I just had to say.......ahhhhhhhhhh, Lemoore NAS!!!!

I spent many a day working on hay and other farm equipment in that area and watching aircraft of all types coming and going. Approve [^]  That is where I went to my first airshow.  Man.  Those memories. Sigh [sigh]

Navy SAR decals?
Posted by Aaronw on Sunday, January 14, 2007 9:46 PM

Anyone know of decals for a Navy SAR UH-1F/K (Bell 204) or UH-1N (Bell 212)? I'm looking for 1/72 but if there are some in other scales that would be handy to know in case I get the bug for something bigger.

There are some pics of what I'm looking for here

Don't think it would be that hard to do myself but thought I'd see if there is already something out there.

Thanks
