                        Five evenings of modeling to get this thing washed. Dull coat is on next the chalks go on and the accessorie pieces get finished. Engine compartment is only closed for painting.

                        Doing something a little different with my masks this time. I am masking the pattern one or two pieces at a time with silly putty. Once the base color is applied I have a cap of lightened paint ready and do some panel fading. The masking material is removed, reformed and reapplied and the whole process starts over again. So far I have the basics of the forward cabin done and the tail boom will happen next time. I have learned that Life Like paints do not like to be thinned with alcohol but do tolerate Windex just fine.

                        Andy, yes - everything will be left open, cargo doors, side door, cockpit side windows, upper hatch, engine hatches -- everything I can open will be open.

                        I added some 1/35 resin tarp rolls and a couple small crates to the aft cabin. The benches are built from scratch and covered with masking tape to simulate canvas. I looked at several actual interior pictures before settling on this particular arraingement. The crew figures are CMK modern Russian helo pilots.

                        It's Baaaack!!!! Bet y'all thought I gave up on this one. Truth is the summer just has been too busy to model at an extreme level. The forward area is complete and the basics of the cargo area are complete. Windows are masked and installed. Next I start working on detailing the cargo area with crew benchs, belts and retaining straps.


                        It's been so long since I've worked on this there is dust on top of the IPs, now where am I going to find a little maid to take care of that???? :-?
                        This is also a test run of a new camera. I picked up one of those little tiny Olympus cameras that will drop in the pocket. This thing has two levels of macro and 7megapix resolution!

                         Oh yeah, gunship from Afganistan 89' with rockets on pylons, MG's in the nose cone and back door and a AGM-17 in a side doorway!

                        Still slightly undecided on the final markingings. Tossed between a Russian transport group and an attack unit. Would have to scratch build the rocket launchers and stuff but nothing real tough there.

                         Very good job you've done there on your Hip's rotorhead! Paint job and plumbing...hmmmm cant wait to see more pics.

                           What markings this thing will have? There is pritty cool new walkaround of UN/Russian Hip on ARC helo page now.

                        The main rotor head was done with Alclad Aluminum then masked off for the other enamels and acrylics. Once all was dry it was washed with an ink wash.

                        Main rotor is not complete other than some light wash on the blades. Good thing this will be hanging from the ceiling cause it's bloddy huge.

                        Managed to fit in a little modeling time today and started detailing the flight engineer's station in the forward section of the cargo bay.

                        I've done a little more tinkering over the last few evenings. The collectives have been corrected, upper instrument panel is done, right sidewall of the cockpit has been detailed, still working on the left sidewall. Added some stuff to the rotor plate. Starting to think about the cargo area.

                        Excellent catch there. I just checked my reference pictures and sure enough the collectives are not correct. It's not too late for me to fix that -- thanks for the tip.
