LOL!

Westernizing an eastern thing is not one of the best ideas. 20mm gun and Mokopa ATGMs that they put in South Africa really suck comparing to Mi-35 upgrade they did on a Hind back in Russia. Trying to save money substituting REAL stuff with their oun crap))))))

Modern Mi-35 should look like this:

Very cool!

A quick internet search for the "superhind" reveals that this South African company pretty much "westernizes" the birds by adding western avionics and such. The youtube vid of the nose turret looks pretty sweet. I'm betting that missile system is non-soviet as well.

Nice little scratchbuild..........maybe a conversion if the type gains popularity.

I wonder if there's any cost savings to modifying a Hind vs. buying the Mangusta, Rooivalk, or Tiger. Kind of a re-worked poor-man's modern attack helo?

It is Hind. They just added FLIR and a 30(?) mm gun turret on the nose. Looks like they inlarged the ammo bay. The ammo chuts are located on the sides and covered with fairings.

Nobody makes this kit. Might be nice conversion if there where more pics of it.

It's a real helo. They took great care in using the correct aircraft for the movie. Here is the trivia page on imdb.com:

  • The attack helicopter seen near the end of the film is a Mi-24 SuperHind Mk IV. The helicopter started life as a Russian Mi-24 (NATO codename "Hind") but underwent an extensive upgrade program by Advanced Technology and Engineering, a South African arms company. Upgrades include improvements to avionics, weapons systems, and counter measures.

  • The airplane that Jennifer Connelly boards at Colonel Coetzee's camp is a Russian Ilyushin Il-76 (NATO codename "Candid"). It was mostly likely the Il-76TF, which is the civilian transport variant.

The white transport helicopter Danny Archer, Solomon Vandy, and Maddy Bowen fly to the refugee camp in is a Russian Mi-17 (NATO codename "Hip-H").

I haven't seen the movie yet, but is it a real helo, or just one modded up for the movie?  Same as the Red Dawn and Rambo Hind A's that are actually visually modded Pumas.

Just watched the move Blood Diamond. In it, there is a Superhind... just a South African converted MI-8. Is there a kit of this somewhere?
