Apache progress pics
Posted by sawdeanz on Saturday, January 27, 2007 3:47 PM

Here are some In-progress photos of a 1/48 scale Revell Apache. So far the build is going fine, but I was wondering if some of you more experianced modelers could take a look and let me know if you see any room for improvement.

Thanks

I realized there are some places where the paint needs to be touched up

The control details were picked out by dry brushing siver onto them

Mostly I just have the cockpit finished, but all I have to do is paint the model, then add on the other details and the decals also.

Saw, Lookin good!  Don't worry too much about the seam on the back between the engines. Those are the catwalk access doors and there's a definite seam there on the real bird.  Of course, on the tail rotor driveshaft cover (along the top of the tailboom) the seam needs to be filled, which you've got a good handle on!

Any idea what markings you'll be putting it in?

I was just going to go with an overall olive drab scheme in standard U.S. markings. yes, I already installed the main rotor, because unfortunatly you have to install it before glueing the halves together. I already painted the main rotor and I thought that I could just cover it with a plastic bag or saran wrap before i paint the rest of the model. Also, since these pics i have also installed the painted pilot figures, which i suggest you do before assembling the cockpit, because it is a tight fit and a pain.

Thanks for commenting

No, do you have any suggestions? I was just going to build it out of box. There are no unit decals provided. By the way it is the earlier version, not the longbow apache.

Sawyer,

Depends on when you want to build it from.  Out of the box it builds up as a pre-Desert Storm A model.  With a little effort and either scratchbuilding or photoetch add ons you can build it as a Desert Storm-to-Current AH-64A.  The A model has been retired from Active Duty service, but there are currently nine A model battalions in the National Guard and Reserves.  The last A models in active units were sent to the Guard in 2005, so many did see action in Iraq and Afghanistan with both Active and Reserve component units.  When are you looking to build it from?
