Jon
Sorry, camera wasn't with me.  Besides, I didn't know what it was until I saw it.  The Hueys were up at about 1500', so my puny camera would have rendered them as black Huey-like shapes.

Andy
Yeah, I guess Y is the one.  I just get the two a bit confused at times.

You mean a Yankee-model Huey?

The production models started rolling out at the end of last year: First Production H-1 Helicopters Rollout. An interesting note -- they scrapped the idea of rebuilding UH-1Ns into the -1Ys. All of the SuperHueys will be completely new airframes.

Haven't heard anything just yet as to when they will start hitting the HML/As. Then again, I have been out of the loop for a couple years. Maybe if Supercobra still peruses the forums, he could give us a little 411.

(I checked the Navair H-1 program website....but it has not been updated since 2005 (c'mon, guysGrumpy [|(]))

I was out in the garden yesterday and I heard a couple fo helos out in the distance, so of course I set out to identify it before I saw it and it was proving difficult.  When they finally came into view, I was confused, Hueys just don't sound like that.  They were most definately in Marine livery and I puzzled some more until the thought hit me, It must be a Zulu!  I am not sure where the program stands right now, are they beginning to field or were these OPEVAL birds?
