1/72 AH-1W / UH-1N USMC decals
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 11:56 AM

Newbie here,

I've recently returned to scale modeling after a 12 "sabbatical" and am building some of the kits I've kept in my stash oh these long years.

I've got a couple of Testors (reboxed Italeri) 1/72 AH-1W's.  I'm wanting to depict them as OIF Cobras (in the USMC TPS gray scheme) but am having a heck of a time finding decals for SuperCobras in this scale.  Obviously I started with Twobobs and MAWdecals, but have also spent the last few evenings googling and have come up with nothing.

I'm wondering if anyone here has run across any modern (two tone gray scheme) decals for 1/72 Whiskey Cobras?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

No, sorry. 1/72 is pretty tough to find modern helicopter decals in anyways -- especially modern OIF. Only 1/35 and 1/48 have been the popular releases lately. I don't do much in 1/72 myself, but it would still be nice if those Twobobs or MAW sheets made a release in that scale for all the 72 guys. My dad has the complete array of the USMC rotory wing built in 1/72, and alas, there was no option but to use the kit decals in each.

Thanks Andy (great name BTW.......LOL), for the info, not what I wanted to hear but thanks.

I think I'll pirate some gray "Marines" decals from some 1/72 aircraft kits and some gray stars and bars and call it good for now.  From the photos I've seen most Whiskeys are so weathered in OIF that squadron markings get lost, probably even moreso in 1/72.

You might even want to experiment with creating your own decals, if you have a printer and decal paper.
