Need help with a part, H-34
Posted by Scotty T on Saturday, February 24, 2007 3:16 PM

Hello all,

This is my first time posting, but I have enjoyed reading all the forums and have learned a great deal from all of you.  I recently came to acquire a 1/48 scale H-34, but it is missing the rear fairing behind the main gear box leading to the tail boorm and over the tail rotor drive shaft, one cyclic, the tail rotor, and the sliding crew door.  If anyone has any ideas on where to look or where to even start I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you and keep the Nr up and the greasy side down.

Hey Scotty T,   I only have one RV. H-34 in  /48 so..sorry..no spare parts     but,if the fairing your talking about is the one that looks like it has a 'step-down' shape maybe I can email/fax a 1/1 copied version (of the actual model piece) that you make a balsa wood copy of; if you know/can vac-form plastic to the balsa shape....i can copy the shape of the tail rotor pieces as well but need to find my micrometer to tell you 'how thick'.

depending on how easily viewing into the cockpit is you might be able to getaway with just taking a piece of /32 solder wire and form it up against the remaining cyclic stick to make a reproduction that's close enough

'Nam -34s were way pre my days so I don't know if these aircraft flew without the doors (to reduce weight and/or just to get it out of the way), hopefully someone qualified will help answer you

Brian,

I appreciate that, if you want to my email is s-thompson76@msn.com and any all help that can be sent is great.  I really appreciate that and the fairing is indeed the one you refered to.  It is aft of the cockpit and main rotor section....in the -53E we called it the transition section.  Please let me know what I can do to help you.  Thank you again
