Australian helicopters..

Thanks mate.. So I guess they dont do them in 1/48?  I guess if I do a Tigre, I would like to keep them all in scale..

Thanks again.. I just picked myself up the Italeri Tigre at my local shop for $16, so cant complain about that.. I usually build my jets in 1/48, so kinda wanted to do everything in the one scale.. I also couldnt help myself and also picked up an F/A-18F to build in Aussie markings now that Australia will be picking them up.. As for the other Helo's, can you suggest any good kits in 1/48.. I can only find stuff in 1/72 and 1/32-5..

Italeri's 1/48 helos are pretty good.  The UH-1H is the same one that the 1/35 Panda one was up-scaled from.  It is pretty good, but lacking on interior details.  It has been released in a few different configurations.  Here it is in Italian colors.

The Italeri 1/48 Chinook is brand new and looks to be pretty good.  They may not have the D model out yet.  It is announced for later this year.  Their ACH-47A is out and could be used if you are not particular about the correct version.

The best Blackhawk model in 1/48 is by Academy/Minicraft.  Their hawk madels are really good.  It would be best to get one of their MH-60G kits.  That way you will have the correct squared off stabilator.

Chris, Italeri do the UH-1D in 1/48. Neat little kit. Plenty of guff around about the chin bubble being the wrong shape & all - but it looks like a wokka to me.I'm working on 2 of these at the mo - 1 as a 9 Sqdn RAAF slick & the other as a current AAAvn slick.

With regards the Tigre, I found out from cobrahistorian on here, that Revell have just released an updated kit of their Tigre - the HAP version I think it is? Apparently this model is closer to our helos than either of Italeri's or Revell's earlier kits.

   Hey Chris, you forgot the Kiowa! I do believe it plays a vital part in Aussie chopper operations.... I know Heller made one, i have it in my stash somewhere, trying to find it to give you the kit number. Its there somewhere........ Try Hawkeye Models for all your decals. They have a fantastic range. Their Hornet range is brilliant.

   I have all the kits and decals ready to build all the aussie choppers(all 1/48 scale), although i still need the Tiger and the Chinook. Italeris Chinook should be out soon and so too the Revell Tiger.     AND I STILL NEED THE TIME!!!

   I thought about putting them all together next to each other as if they were at an airshow on display.Have fun building. All those choppers are going to look awesome together!

Hi Boomerang.. I actually built them all in 1/72, but wasnt happy with the size.. We had a pretty big earth quake going on 2 summers agao, and that fixed that.. So I just scooped them up and binned them.. I was going to do them all in 1/32-5 but the Tigre was the problem and the size. So 1/48 has seemed to be the better option..Thanks for reminding me on the Kiowa!

I have a Italeri 1/48 OH-58 A Kiowa on the shelf, serial number is 2624, it only comes with decals for U.S. Army Phu Cat - August, 1971 and Spanish Army training unit, looks like a nice little kit though.

Thanks skypirate, I will look into that one.. Its been fun.. I really lost interest in modelling toward the end of last year, but now I am getting the bug back..
