Australian Army Eurocopter TIGRE started.
Posted by Chris_in_Japan on Saturday, March 10, 2007 4:55 AM

Well guys. after 4 months of non action and lack of modeling desire. I went out on Thursday and bought 2 new kits.. First one was the Hasegawa 1/48 Super Hornet to be done in Australian RAAF markings. And also the Italeri 1/48 Eurocopter TIGRE kit..

On opening the kit, it is of the usual Italeri standard, but I have never seen this to be a problem, and have always managed to make decent models out of them. In saying that, right from the start I have noticed many differences with inspection.

I have decided not to purchase the upgrade kit for the Aus Army version, and will scratch the different parts as needed. I will also be doing the markings myself.

So far I built what is a pretty sparce cockpit, but as with most my kits, I dont spend alot of time on things that you simply cant see when the canope goes on. SO in saying that, I have the cockpit built installed, and the two body harlves together. Tomorrow I will begin sanding the seams and finishing the rest of the main structure also.

I will be painting it in the Australian Army 3 colour bush scheme, and would love to know what you guys would suggest for the unique green and tan mixes.. I also use Tamiya acrilics..

Lastly, where is a good source for Helicopter pilot figures in 1/48?.. Or does anyone have any that they are willing to part with.. For me, I just prefer figures to give the subject a little more believability..

The box..

Main pieces assembled.. Canope is sitting loosly.

Nose work needed for Aussie version.

Work needs to be done on detailing the cockpit.

Hey Chris

Good start the build mate.

As for the colors i would be happy with

FS37030, FS33793,FS3427  You can check them out at  http://www.colorserver.net/

This give the paint job a already faided and weathered look.

Hope this helps?

Cheers

Chris, the tan is FS 30219. I did a search for Lustreless Olive Drab recently, & this was the spec for the tan that came up in some official procurement docs for the paint coy. For the unique green, I think I may have said to you in the past, the colour used for IDF F-16's is a pretty close match.
