I bought the 1/48 Mi-8 from Russian Project kit some years ago --before the 1/35 Trumpeter came out-- and still have it.  It's horrible.  I started it up a few times and always put it back.  The fuselage is thick, the parts fit is off by a lot, and the rotorhead is cast in metal, looks like a copy off Monogram's MI-24.  The decals are decent and that's all the praise I can give it.  BTW, I also have the 1/35 Mi-8 and the difference is huge.  I wouldn't waste my money on the Russian Project kit if I were you.  I would not recommend this kit to anyone.

I would love to see your build up of it!  I am very intimidated by the kit.  I was thinking about getting rid of both of them.  I alos have 2 of the older 1/50th scale hips that are very plain.

Thanks for the advice.  Mi-24 kits are unexpensive and I have an unstarted one, so I am going to see how I can use the parts to supplement the MI-8.

I have 2 of these kits.  The interior is horrible.  The exterior needs a ton of work, but doable.  I think it could come out good if you kit bash a 1/48 hind for the rotors and small parts.  You will also have to vacuform the windscreen.  This kit is a multimedia kit.  It is a tough cookie, but if you have the skill, get it!

Sounds like an interesting project.  I would like to see how it turns out.

Hi,

Thanks for the link. The kit looks great. I've got a couple in 1/72, but 1/48 would be better. Good luck with your build.

Check out http://www.aviapress.com/viewonekit.htm?RPR-48001

I have taken picture of the kit (unstarted), but I do not know how to post the pictures on the forum.

The kit has resin and metal parts...  It's quite rough and appears to be for experienced modeller.  It can be ordered online from a couple of places.

I used to build kits when I was a kid, and now I have built a large collection of 1/48 helos to build.  I think I have most of them, including some rare models, like (in no particular order) H-19, Puma, H-34, Alouette III, Lama, 222, H21, R5, etc.

Welcome to the forums!

The manufacturer is called "Russian Project?" Never heard of 'em! 1/48 would be a good scale for the Mi-8...the Trumpy 1/35 monster is too big, and all the itty bitty 1/72 kits are too small! 1/48: Just right!

I had no idea they did it in this scale. Can you post some pics. Where did you get it from?

Nah!  I have a large collection of 1/48 helos to build...  I kind of like sticking to that one scale to compare the models...
