CH-47A Assistance - Viet Nam era
Posted by Dick McC2 on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 10:03 AM

I have been contracted by my cousin to build up a model of her son's Chinook he flew in Viet Nam in the late '60s. I will be using Italeri's 1/48th ACH-47A, but leaving off the guns. What I am looking for is a decal of the 1st Cavalary Division, Airmoble and its placement on the aircraft. He was attached to Alpha Co, 228th Aviation Assault Support Battalion, Heavy Lift and I uncovered their website, but unfortunately not too many pics of Chinooks. Bill flew serial number 65-08000 and I would also need to know where it was placed and color. I did note in some of the photos there appears to be a .50 cal. placed in the forward door area, but not sure if this was a ACH-47A or a CH-47A. I am attempting to replicate Bill's Chinook as accurately as possible and would appreciate any assistance.

You can get an idea off Trumpeter's 1/35 A model where the markings are.

More pics here for some ideas.

Dick,

I've contacted the webmaster of the 228th site (who was an FE in "A" Company in '68-'69), and see if he could look through the things he don't have on the site.    Never can tell?

Also, he asked what "Bill's" last name is.    You can email me if you want, thanks! Smile [:)]

Take care,

Frank
