HH-60 Pavehawk question
Posted by ww2modeler on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 4:13 PM

Hi all, I am new to Helicopters but after watching the Guardian this weekend, I thought it would be cool to have a model of one. Does anyone know of a kit of one or the differences between the Pavehawk and Nighthawk. All help would be appreciated. Also, are there any Coast Guard helicopter crew sets or do you just have to convert these from Air Force or Army personnel.

Thanks, David

1/144 Minicraft P-38J Lightning-50%

Numerous 1/35 scale figures in various stages if completion.

If the movie 'The Guardian' inspired you, then you will want to model an HH-60J Jayhawk, since that is what the Coast Guard flies. Only the US Air Force operates Pavehawks. There is currently no out-of-box kit for the Jayhawk.

If you buy the 1/48 scale Italeri SH-60, you can use this conversion set from Cobra Company to build it as a Jayhawk.

You can also find HH-60J Jayhawk decals in 1/48 from Fireball Modelworks.

I haven't used these particular sets, but have experience with other Cobra Company resin and Fireball decals, and both companies are absolutely top-notch.

Good luck,
Andy

To add to Andy's great reply, Fireball also does a 1/72 resin/decal combo set.

Good luck.

I have the 1/72 Fireball resin / decal combo, I haven't built it yet but it is very well done. I have used some other parts from Cobra Company and they are very nice too.

So basically it just depends on what scale you want to do, either conversion should be good.

Fireball is supposed to be coming out with a kit to correct the 1/48 Trumpeter HH-65 if you get on a USCG roll and want something else after the Jayhawk.
